Katie Strang’s report that Mark Streit needs rotator-cuff/labrum surgery is obviously a heck of a blow for the Islanders. If the Big Club does find a replacement — off the pile in a tryout, or on waivers, or by trade, or by de Haan if he was on the outside — then not much changes for the Sound Tigers.
If the Big Club does not? Bridgeport’s defense corps looked good, skilled, but not particularly deep. It would be that much thinner.
Meanwhile, Odessa announced that goalie Joel Martin just got an invitation to the Islanders’ training camp, so he’ll be there instead of here. With the split-squad exhibition games coming up this week, you’re going to need four goaltenders, and they only had three yesterday. The injuries are said to be minor to Nathan Lawson and Kevin Poulin. We’ll see.
(Actually, Strang just tweeted that other tryouts will include goalie Manny Legace, forwards Dean McAmmond and Krys Kolanos, and defenseman Anders Eriksson.)
Elsewhere, Oklahoma City’s camp roster includes Milford’s Mark Arcobello, the former Fairfield Prep and Yale standout, and Vladimir Nikiforov.
Edit: Wilkes-Barre’s papers each write on a former Sound Tiger.
