The coaches’ room at Iceworks in Syosset, N.Y., has a lock on it; you have to punch a code to get in. Brent Thompson couldn’t get himself in a couple of times yesterday.
He’ll have to learn that code soon. The Islanders made it official today that Thompson is now an Islanders assistant.
Bridgeport is also losing Matt Bertani to the Islanders; he’ll be the team’s new video coach. Am told Eric Boguniecki is expected back.
So there will indeed be a fourth coach in three years here, and an eighth in 12.
Edit: Coincidentally, former Isles assistant Dean Chynoweth is the new coach in Cleveland.
