Backman re-ups

The Sound Tigers announced that Greenwich’s Sean Backman has re-signed with the Islanders for one year.

Backman was 7-11-18 for Bridgeport in 66 games this year and became a key piece of the penalty kill as the year went on.

The Islanders announced earlier that Ty Wishart and Matt Martin didn’t accept their qualifying offers, which expired yesterday at 5. We’re told the same is true of Tomas Marcinko. That doesn’t change anything, really; they remain restricted free agents, with the Islanders holding the right to match any NHL offers. It just means that particular contract offer is off the table.

Edit: As was reminded in the comments, looks like Mikko Koskinen remains with KalPa in Finland next year. In other former Bridgeport goalie news, Nathan Lawson to Ottawa.
