Seven to nine to seven

Marc Cantin and Brett Gallant practiced this morning after missing the last two and a half periods last night, for related reasons. “Good to see Cantin on the ice,” Scott Pellerin said. “We got good reports regarding the way he was feeling this morning; the trainers put him through.” They’ll keep an eye on him and decide if they need to bring in any insurance, especially since Nathan McIver remained out, termed day-to-day.

Of course, so are most of them; McIver made seven injured players last night. Nino Niederreiter was seeing the doctor as they practiced. Pellerin had nothing new on Brock Nelson and Travis Hamonic, who’ve theoretically been day-to-day for a number of days now with their different injuries.

Same lines as yesterday. Pairs may’ve been subtly tweaked.

Meanwhile, a new NHL proposal leaks out. We’ll see.

A few thoughts from late last night:

–For a team that has had its moments in the faceoff circle… probably worth noting somewhere that that was Colin McDonald winning the draw on Donovan’s power-play goal.

–The penalty kill, though this includes a couple of short ones, has killed 20 in a row. If I haven’t missed one somewhere, 23-for-23 will get you into a tie for Bridgeport’s top 10.

–In Game 30 last night, that was Brett Gallant’s 17th fight, leading a team that has fought 52 times. The team records, you should probably know, are 24 (Graham Belak, 2003-04) and 94 (2007-08, led by Kip Brennan’s 18).

And one more reminder for Newtown residents that they can receive a free ticket with ID for tomorrow’s game.

Edit: The arena announced a free concert Jan. 15 for the Newtown community. Billed as “a night of hope and healing,” tickets are free but must be reserved at the box office, at Ticketmaster or at the Newtown Bee office. (Will get you a link ASAP.) Also, remiss in not reminding you: If you’re not coming down for tomorrow’s game, Newtown High School hockey has its own day of remembrance at Danbury Ice Arena against Watertown/Pomperaug. EDIT 3: Newtown game postponed, TBA.

Edit2: Prescout. Hard-luck loss for Peter Mannino.

(Thanks for your patience today. Compy a mess.)
