Up: a Hill — Wednesday practice

So a day after we took pains to note that Jordan Hill was practicing with the defensemen, guess who skated at forward today? No. 25 was up with Matt Watkins and Sean Backman at Wonderland, Home of Champions. “We’ve been dressing seven defensemen, and then I’ve been putting him at forward at times,” Scott Pellerin said. “He’d never practiced at forward. I thought he played really well last game. He gives us a little more versatility to the lineup.”

Also adding depth: John Persson appeared to get through the day morning well, in full-contact mode for the first time in a while. He said he was feeling OK, and they’ll see how he and his upper body are tomorrow. Pellerin said the same things. “He’s still sore, but it’s a situation where I don’t think it’s anything that’s going to get worse,” Pellerin said. He was with Johan Sundstrom and Mike Halmo. Diamond-Nelson-Niederreiter remained intact, as did DeFazio-Campbell-Riley.

Tim McCarver is retiring. Back in the olden days, he and Kiner and Zabriskie were the background soundtrack to my summers.

And RIP Deke Richards.
