Camp, Day 0 (again): Five tryouts

The Islanders haven’t yet disclosed how (or if) they’ll split their group for the next few days, but we’ve at least got the names of Bridgeport’s tryouts:

RW Brayden Irwin. Stockton contract. Has two NHL games and 66 AHL games to his credit. Went to the 2009 Frozen Four with Vermont, so he probably practiced at Wonderland once.
RW Sean Wiles. Reading contract. Played three solid games here last spring before going back to Las Vegas, where he had a good second pro season.
D Shawn Morton-Boutin. Stockton contract; played 69 games there last year in his second pro season. Righty shot.
D Nathan Deck. Stockton contract. Played 33 games for Oklahoma City last year in his second pro season.
D Landon Oslanski. Stockton contract; a rookie, though he played six playoff games for the Thunder after his junior season ended. Another righty shot.

The Sound Tigers have four other players on AHL contracts who weren’t in Islanders camp, plus one who was just sent to Bridgeport today:

D Sean Escobedo. Teammate of Ben Rosen’s at BU. From Bayside.
D Mathieu Coderre-Gagnon. Finished last year with Fort Wayne.
F Nick Larson. Recently signed out of Notre Dame; five-game Peoria amateur tryout last year.
F Ben Rosen. Came to Bridgeport on an ATO last year out of BU.
G Parker Milner. NCAA champion with BC in 2012. Rookie pro. Released from Islanders tryout today.

As mentioned along the way the past few days, the guys who weren’t in NHL camp reported today and are expected on the ice Tuesday. And as mentioned above, who’ll be where when then is still TBA.

Seven other AHL-contract players were in Islanders camp and remain on their roster, and pardon the alphabetical lack of annotation: F’s Justin Johnson, Greg Miller and Riley Wetmore; D’s Mike Dalhuisen, Dallas Jackson and Mike Keenan; and G Kenny Reiter. Unsigned draft pick Alan Quine is junior-eligible but could play in Bridgeport, but we’ve heard nothing either way (not that we’ve been poking; vacation). The Big Club has another Grapefruit-League split-squad evening Saturday, so truly proper assignments may not come for a while, but if I’ve counted right they’ve got 51 in camp (including the injured Cal Clutterbuck).

Elsewhere, because there weren’t enough people with ties to Bridgeport and the Islanders in camp with St. John’s, they’ve given Wiles’ erstwhile linemate, Jordan Hill, a tryout. Mike Russo says Jon Landry may be in the Minnesota exhibition lineup tonight. And Steve MacIntyre goes to Edmonton off waivers.
