They’ve had lots of fits since then: Springfield pregame

Remember way back yonder in November when we wondered what it was about Springfield that gave Bridgeport fits*?

Think at least part of the answer has safely revealed itself: It’s the only good team Bridgeport played in the first month of the season.

“Good” might be overstating it a bit, but “current playoff” is accurate: Bridgeport’s opponents before Nov. 13 were St. John’s (10th in the conference, four games, Bridgeport went 2-1-0-1), Albany (12th, five games, 4-1), Springfield (sixth, two games, 1-1, with the win in overtime and both games at home) and Norfolk (14th, one game, 1-0).

The Sound Tigers then started their second month by sweeping a home-and-home from Hartford, 6-1 and 5-2 (the Wolf Pack are fourth in the conference now), to improve to 10-3-0-1 and take over first place in the Eastern Conference.

Then they lost 5-3 at home to Springfield the next day, with the line brawl at the end. Including that game, Bridgeport is 11-23-5-0 since, with the last six of those games all regulation losses.

They’ll try to snap that tonight in Springfield. With the week’s moves, there’s not a lot of scratching to do. They’ve dressed for warmup pretty much what’s available to them after this week’s moves: Sebastian Collberg returns, Mike Halmo remains out, Scott Mayfield’s got two weeks to serve on his suspension, and that leaves but one to scratch.

Looks like seven defensemen and 11 forwards for the Falcons, whose warm-ups don’t have letters, as always.

*-To clarify on Gallant therein: You may recall that the instigator was rescinded, and anyway the game misconduct wouldn’t count toward his three because it was for something that would’ve earned him a suspension on its own. He did ultimately get to three game misconducts last Saturday night in Hershey.
