Vet 7: Leblanc on waivers

Last night, Arthur Staple broke that the Islanders were sending Kirill Petrov down to the Sound Tigers. Today, Louis Leblanc is apparently healthy enough to hit waivers.

This house got crowded. If Leblanc clears and is assigned tomorrow at noon, Bridgeport will have 14 NHL-contract forwards. That’s just NHL-contract guys, no AHL deals or tryouts… and six of them veteran. Halmo, Quine, Wright (V), Kearns (V), Whitney (V-320), Collberg, Ben Holmstrom (V), Johnston, Vaive, Beck (V-320), Florek, Verhaeghe, Petrov* and Leblanc (V). With Matt Carkner (V) on defense, when Leblanc arrives, Bridgeport will officially have its first Veterans Problem in a decade.

So once the organization sorts out Bridgeport’s roster (Cuts, Wave 2, expected sometime today), it gets to sort out Bridgeport’s lineup. They’re back on the ice tomorrow.

Elsewhere, former Islanders and Sound Tigers defenseman Andrew MacDonald is on waivers. And owed a lot of money for the next five years. Aaron Ness is also on waivers today from Washington.

*-I did some panicked math last night when I looked at Petrov’s career totals, so in case you should do the same: He played enough KHL games as a junior-age player that he didn’t reach 260. He’s not an AHL veteran.
