Second (and third) acts: Wednesday notes

After a couple of days off the ice, let’s do the ol’

BRENT THOMPSON ON…

…The injured Sebastian Collberg and Christopher Gibson: “They’re day-to-day right now. (Collberg) obviously needed one more day to rest and rehab. … Same with Gibby, he came out and got a good warmup. We’ll wait and see how he reacts.”

…Yesterday’s transactions: “Obviously, the trip to St. John’s, we’re only playing two games this weekend. Traveling with five extra bodies is too many guys. They’re not playing games. This gives us the opportunity to use our affiliate in Missouri, give them an opportunity to play games.” They could be back when the team returns.

…The penalty kill, 20-for-29 early on, 26th in the league, maybe playing in some bad luck at times: “It’s early in the year. To me, we’ve made progress. We’re taking steps in the right directions. We’ve had some pretty good rotations. If you look at it, there are a couple our goalies would like to have back. … There are things we’ve got to clean up, but you’re not going to win a Calder Cup in the first week of the season. There are always things that can get better. I’m not going to panic.” (“Ditto,” leaned in Eric Boguniecki, on the power play, 3-for-24.)

…The Mets? (Nah, didn’t do that.)

One more skate Thursday before they fly to St. John’s on Friday. The IceCaps lost in overtime last night at home to Binghamton and face the Sens again tonight.

Tanner Glass cleared waivers and was sent to Hartford, the Rangers announced.

And Todd Richards, who almost took the once-decimated Blue Jackets to the playoffs last year, took the fall today for their 0-7 start. Former New Haven Nighthawks assistant John Tortorella takes over.
