Pelech, Pulock down: Tuesday notes

The Islanders got to 23 this afternoon about the only way they could. They put Eric Boulton on injured reserve, they lost P.A. Parenteau to the Devils on waivers, and after we got back upstairs from practice, they announced that they’ve sent Adam Pelech and Ryan Pulock to Bridgeport. They were the only two players who could be sent out aside from the two forwards who’d have to go to junior, so without another move, this was about the only way to go.

None of that means Pulock (or another defenseman) won’t be back up there quickly, at first opportunity or necessity (that leaves the Islanders at 14 forwards, six defensemen and three goalies), but it deepens Bridgeport’s defense corps for now.

There were already a few tweaks to the forward lines this morning when Bracken Kearns departed early in practice. Brent Thompson said that’s precautionary again; Kearns left Saturday’s exhibition game early, you may recall, reportedly for precautionary reasons with a lower-body injury. We’ll see how they all look on Thursday; team’s not skating tomorrow.

Four other players move on waivers, most notably locally Seth Griffith, off from Boston to Toronto. And reportedly Nathan Gerbe will go to Switzerland instead of Hartford.

Paul Lukas of UniWatch tweets this 1979-80 Kevin Lowe sweater, and everything about it feels odd.

The CIAC high school hockey schedules snuck out when I wasn’t looking. Two months away. (Also, if you’ve been around the Sound Tigers since Day 1 and would like to feel old, here’s a tweet for that. Pretty cool.)

And a long and beautiful piece from WFAN’s Sweeny Murti with the widow and son of Mets and Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle. Today’s 10 years since his plane crashed in Manhattan, killing him and his instructor friend.
