One vet in, one vet not: Monday notes

The Islanders announced near the end of Bridgeport’s practice that they’ve signed veteran forward Steve Bernier, bringing him back on a two-way contract, and he’s on waivers to come here. Physically, I think he already is here, but he can’t skate with the team until he clears, tomorrow at noon.

Not here is Eric Boulton: “He’s sorting family issues. I don’t know when he’ll be here,” Brent Thompson said, and that was about all he had about that.

Aside from those almost-ins and sort-of-outs, pretty much status quo at Wonderland.

Fun fact from Bernier’s IHDB page: The Sharks traded up to pick Bernier in 2003. One of the picks they sent to Boston in the deal was spent on a Finnish forward who didn’t sign, re-entered the draft and was taken by the Islanders in 2005: Masi Marjamaki. (Your fun may vary.)

Elsewhere, Sven Andrighetto made quite a bit of a difference for the IceCaps; he’s AHL player of the week. (Like Harry Kalas and Mickey Morandini, like Bob Murphy and Ty Wigginton, I now can’t read Andrighetto’s name without imagining Brian Rogers saying it.)

And RIP, Bobby Vee.
