Return to Destiny (or something): Wednesday notes

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton helped Bridgeport out last night. We talked a little yesterday about how a sweep either way could leave Bridgeport at least with a bit of control; still, however Wilkes-Barre at Charlotte II goes tonight in snowy Carolina, the Sound Tigers are still back to control of their own destiny.

(Twice this week I’ve wanted to use a lyric from the old Paul Anka song “You Are My Destiny” in a header. But I figure I’m obscure enough that I don’t need to go dropping references to songs I don’t even really know. Anyway.)

Got waylaid on the way in today (potholes, man), but looked like the same group out there; not positive about how they’ll line up tomorrrow. Yet Another Big Weekend coming up, albeit interrupted Saturday. “We’ve been playing playoff hockey the last two weeks,” Brent Thompson said. “They’re valuable points. We’ve got to play with desperation, and I think our guys have been doing that the last little while.”

Seth Helgeson joins Thompson for Alan’s Coach’s Show tonight at Vazzy’s at 7.

Rochester’s suspended Justin Bailey is now recalled Justin Bailey. The Bruins have a new guy, too.

Philly extended Scott Gordon’s contract.

State Division I high school semis tonight at Ingalls. Staples and D-III got moved to tomorrow. Guilford-Farmington Valley on Friday for the Division II title.

Posted prematurely, added a couple of notes

Drew Bavaro, brother of Sacred Heart’s Vito, committed to Bentley, for those who enjoy brotherhood rivalries.

Minor League Baseball announced it’ll put a runner on second base to start all extra innings. When I used to cover lots of Brakettes games, this always came up, the “international tiebreaker.” Nobody ever liked it.

And RIP, Stephen Hawking, who always had a sense of humor.
