Let’s watch two: Tuesday notes

You might just about be able to pull off the AHL/ECHL opener doubleheader on Oct. 13. Semiofficial-tweeted word from the Sound Tigers that their Oct. 13 home opener will be a 1 p.m. start. (Think there’s an iota of “try something new” in there — the crowds for the past two openers have been good/not-great — but a bigger part is that another event might be at Webster Bank Arena that night.) Worcester’s schedule came out today, and the Railers are at Reading that night. (If anyone needs me to do those two games at St. John’s on Nov. 6-7 and would like to send me, I’m all ears.)

Our ol’ buddy David Ullstrom has returned to these shores after five years, signing with Arizona.

At Worlds, The Other Sebastian Aho continued to have a heck of a tournament, pacing Finland to a 6-2 win over the United States, clinching the top seed in the pool. The Americans draw the Czech Republic in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Latvia beat Denmark — not Kristers Gudlevskis in net, but onetime rumored future Sound Tiger Miks Indrasis assisted on the goal — to clinch a quarterfinal spot and a game against Sweden, which topped Russia on Anders Nilsson’s 30 saves to win the other pool. (Nilsson also assisted on the empty-netter.) Nino Niederreiter had an assist on Switzerland’s win that clinched a date with Finland.

It’ll be Canada-Russia in the other quarter, with the winner facing the Finland-Switzerland winner. The U.S.-Czech winner gets Sweden or Latvia.
