Sport Express reports that former Sound Tigers centerman Sergei Ogorodnikov has died in an accident. He was 32.
The report has few other details (it’s called a water motorcycle accident) and came out late Sunday night Moscow time. Sport Go has reaction from a former teammate.
Ogorodnikov was a third-round pick of the New York Islanders in
2003 2004 and came over to the Sound Tigers in 2006. He went down to Pensacola (ECHL) at Christmastime, came back for six games at the end of the season, and finished with six AHL points. He returned to Russia the next season and had played for 12 teams since.
Back in the mundane, former future Sound Tigers defenseman Robbie Russo was traded to Arizona for a conditional seventh rounder.
And a tip of cap to Bob Herzog.
