Preseason at Hartford: Thursday notes

A very short preseason schedule for the Sound Tigers, two afternoon games at Trinity College, Sept. 28-29, after one at Trinity became none last year. Presumably whatever issues there were with that rink have been amended.

Meanwhile the numbers continue to plummet on the Island. I mean, 55? What is this, a country club?

Anyway, rookie camp starts tomorrow. Have not yet seen a roster.

Tom Sestito has retired. Missed yesterday’s accidental-themed blog post by a couple of hours. As Mark said last night, it was always fun watching the big guy. (His big brother… er, older brother, Tim, who made his pro debut with Bridgeport in 2005, retired a year ago after a couple of years in the KHL.)

High school sports start today in Connecticut. (Have not yet seen a roster on some of them, either.) That’s most of what we’ve been up to the past three weeks (if you’re really into the NVL, you can go find what I’ve been doing on GameTimeCT). I was supposed to have the very first kickoff in all of Connecticut football tonight. But then it got either impending-thunderstormed or heat-indexed out. Ah well. (Probably the people most excited to see that the Friday exhibition game in Hartford is a 1 p.m. start? My bosses. They’ll have me for high school football that night.)

But sad news as the season starts: RIP, Bruce “Pops” Howard.
