Suspensions/transactions: Monday notes

Well this turned into a newsy day off. Let’s wrap it up before the Sound Tigers return to practice tomorrow:

–Bridgeport learned this afternoon that it’ll be without both Steve Bernier and Kyle Burroughs on Wednesday morning, and without Bernier on Friday in Laval, too, due to league suspensions. Reasons why, from Mark Divver; Bernier got that charging major, though Burroughs was not penalized.

Blow to the power play for two games; blow to the PK for one. Opens up a veteran spot for a couple of days. (They’ll both be back when Bridgeport meets the reigning AHL player of the week on Saturday.) (Edit: maybe it won’t)

–Bridgeport sent Matt Gaudreau to Worcester this morning, which indicates he’s at least healthy enough to be sent away. Gaudreau was injured in the Sound Tigers’ intrasquad scrimmage in training camp.

–Popping up late last night on the AHL transactions page: The San Jose Barracuda signed Ivan Kosorenkov to an AHL contract. They’ve sent him back to Worcester. Kosorenkov was the other guy injured in that scrimmage, but he joined the Railers a few weeks ago after going to camp with both the New York Islanders and the Sound Tigers.

Elsewhere, Central Scouting rates Darien’s Spencer Knight pretty highly. Luke Krys of Ridgefield is also on the watch list, as is Brooklyn Kalmikov, son of onetime Sound Tiger Konstantin.

Settlement in the concussions lawsuit against the NHL.

Elections, man.

And RIP, Stan Lee.
