The Devils: Bridgeport at Binghamton

We interrupt waiting for GameTimeCT to update to bring you…

We’ll keep up through Alan (Mixlr audio / AHLTV pay-per-view).

We’ll follow Alan, the team, the Devils among others.

The box should be here (R: Dietrich, O’Donnell; L: Frederickson, J.Brown).

We’ll see what’s up with Sebastian Aho and Mike Sislo. Jeff Kubiak remains out. The Devils organization has goalies dropping like they’re the Flyers organization; Bingo signed Jeremy Brodeur to a PTO today.

World Juniors gold medal game tonight at 8.

May be in and out, but we’ll do what we can. More in a bit.

–Jeremy Smith led Bridgeport out.

–Haven’t seen Aho. Actually haven’t seen Connor Jones, either, in the first few minutes of warmup. Looks like Ben Holmstrom in for Stephen Gionta.

–There’s Jones.

–Swap Ryan Bourque and Gaudreau, moving Bellows to the right side for the first time here:

BRIDGEPORT
F: St. Denis-Koivula-C.Bourque
R.Bourque-Fritz-Bernier (A)
Gaudreau-Jones-Bellows
Eansor-Hitchcock-B.Holmstrom (C)
D: Wotherspoon-Burroughs
Vande Sompel-Casto
Helgeson-Rathgeb
G: Smith
Gibson

–Evan Cormier for Binghamton. Cam Johnson sits in case New Jersey needs him.

–Burroughs for boarding early on; second night in a row he gets hit with one of those.

–Alan (feeling a little better) notes that it’s Ben Holmstrom’s 241st Bridgeport game, passing Justin Mapletoft for seventh in team history. Tomas Marcinko next up at 243, then Micheal Haley at 247.

–Chris Bourque takes Gignac’s stick up high and bleeds. Double minor at 11:53.

–It startes Bernier, Rathgeb, Hitchcock, Bellows and Wotherspoon. Other unit is Fritz, Chris Bourque, Koivula, St. Denis and Vande Sompel.

–Devils kill that off. Best chance was probably Vande Sompel cutting in from the right circle with the rebound of a CBourque shot. Cormier turned him away.

–Ramage knocks Jones down next to the Binghamton net; interference. St. Denis tips down a Vande Sompel shot, it bounces by and maybe (probably) off Cormier with Fritz also in front, and it’s 1-0 Bridgeport with 2:05 left in the first.

–Rooney with an offensive-zone roughing penalty. 1:21 of it (Bridgeport’s fourth power play) will carry over to the second. 1-0 Bridgeport.

–Devils start the second strong, and they tie it at 2:51 of the second on a deflection of a shot from the left halfwall. Gabriel’s in front. Colby Sissons gets credit. 1-1.

–Bernier for cross-checking Studenic. Devils win the draw, Gignac to Lappin at the front, taps it to the right to Kapla, and Kapla puts it away seven seconds into the power play. 2-1 Devils not quite midway second.

–Hammond throws down Chris Bourque ahead of the play, which puts him offside. Baddock comes over after the whistle and gives him a shot while he’s down. Little scuffle when he gets up.

–Bernier and Baddock get together after a whistle. Helgeson jumps in, but the linesmen keep them apart. It’ll be a Devils power play at the end of it.

–Bridgeport kills that off, then gets a power play on a Baddock hold, then can’t capitalize as Koivula gets nabbed for high-sticking.

–With 1.5 seconds left in the second, Ramage scores after, Bridgeport argues, Studenic made contact with him. Smith’s livid on the way off the ice. Binghamton leads 3-1 after two.

–Alan unfortunately reads an AHLTV ad while Bridgeport’s feed still has an ad up. Third period is on.

–After the teams trade unsuccessful power plays, Holmstrom had an open side, but Hammond reached out to get a piece and knock it away. Midway third, still 3-1 Bingo.

–Ramage puts one in on a power play from the blue line, but it’s waved off, I guess for incidental contact? Bridgeport might want to know where that was a half an hour ago, but.

–Smith out, 2:38.

–Another gorgeous Koivula goal, who went straight ahead and beat pretty much the entirety of Binghamton to cut it to 3-2 with 1:57 left. First five-game goal-scoring streak for a Sound Tiger in almost two years (Verhaeghe).

Binghamton 3, Bridgeport 2, final. First three-game winless streak of the year comes right at the midpoint.

More as it comes, I guess. Might not get over there until late in the week, but we’ll see what we can come up with in the meantime.
