Things are kinda crazy around here (no podcast, but PAIRINGS!), so the Sound Tigers have taken a back seat for the moment. They’re headed out on the road this weekend. Told status quo over there. Will be interesting to see, with the three-in-threes out of the way, if they rotate the scratches quite as hard as they’ve done the past few weekends. Saturday at Hershey, Sunday at Allentown.
Things passed quietly here on Monday, except that the Islanders papered Devon Toews down at 3 p.m., making him eligible to come back to Bridgeport at any time (though presumably not for a while). The AHL trade deadline is this coming Monday. Charlotte has been busy, picking up Tomas Jurco (who, it was pointed out to me Saturday, didn’t play much if at all down the stretch that night for Springfield) earlier in the week, then getting Dustin Tokarski from Hartford on loan from the Rangers in exchange for the loan of defenseman Josh Wesley.
Elsewhere, Newtown’s Melissa Samoskevich is on the national team again for the World Championship.
Big win for Sacred Heart last night in Springfield. The Pios still have a shot at second place, and they’ve already clinched a first-round bye for the first time in a long time. (And if they finish in the top four… we’ll see where they’ve arranged to play the quarterfinals. Lot going on at the arena the next few weekends.)
Congratulations to Gary Lindgren, former Amity hockey coach, going into the University of New Haven Hall of Fame.
