Road game: Bridgeport at Syracuse

  • Who, when, whatever: Sound Tigers at Crunch, War Memorial, Syracuse, 7 p.m.
  • Watch: AHLTV pay-per-view
  • Listen: Mixlr audio
  • Twitters: Alan / the Sound Tigers / the Crunch / Lindsay Kramer
  • Box score: Totally (R: Markovic, Schrader; L: Oliver, Walker)
  • Game notes: Winless in six, one win in nine, one centerman out, two centermen up. Sounds like fun. They may also be without Steve Bernier, who missed at least a couple of days of practice. No idea how they’ll look, whether Nic Pierog gets in to make his Bridgeport debut, or the like. Last time we were there was Tuesday, when we got a few bits for our new weekly Thursday feature. I like to think of it as the old Weekly Page, reborn. Popping up too late to go in there was the Sound Tigers’ joining Utica as a Purple Heart team, looking to honor wounded veterans next weekend. They’ll be home for five in a row after this one, not that it helped being home for four out of five (and only in Hartford for the fifth) last week.
  • Meh, what else is going on: Possibly the absolute greatest AHL transaction in history:

  • Aren’t you supposed to be doing something else: It was originally supposed to be much further away, too.
  • RIP, Ron Fairly.
  • Tip of cap to Mike Sislo, who Wolfsburg says has retired due to injury.
  • Tip of cap also to Benny Ercolani, who retired from the NHL office. He was very helpful to
  • If this were a regular blog post, what word or phrase would most likely follow “More” at this point: Tomorrow after football.
  • You know Lewis Lymon was… I had the idea that he sang lead on Every Day of the Week, which was wrong but didn’t stop me from having it stuck in my head while I was writing.

Postgame edit: Well. We missed history. The Crunch’s last three goals, in 57 seconds, appear to be a Bridgeport team record for fastest three goals against. Their last two, in five seconds, are a Bridgeport team record for fastest two goals against. Impressive that the two fastest goals against in team history come against different goalies. Lindsay’s gamer has lots on all that.

Failed clears on the first two goals against. The third seemed to be under control, but the trailer scores. The fourth goes in from a bad angle. And then the fifth is a hopped-on turnover against a goalie just into the game. Since that was Skarek’s first shot and he’s credited with only one save, that’s six Crunch shots in 2:09 of the third period. Things are tough right about now.

Indeed no Bernier. Also no Grant Hutton, which was a bit of a surprise. Don’t know severity, but we’re told he was injured. Bridgeport is up to 50 man-games lost to injury through 10 games.
