Road game: Bridgeport at Providence

  • Who, when, whatever: Sound Tigers at Bruins, Providence Civic Center, 3 p.m.
  • Watch: AHLTV pay-per-view
  • Listen: Mixlr audio
  • Twitters: Alan / the Sound Tigers / Mark Divver
  • Box score: Yep (R: Gouin, Hennessey; L: O’Quinn, C.Millea)
  • Did you just copy and paste the officials: Not often you get three of the same four officials two nights in a row in two different cities, but here we are.
  • Game notes: Very nearly tweeted “It is ’90s Night and Regression to the Mean Night at Harbor Yard” after the first period last night. Mason Jobst set up Colin McDonald on their first shift. Then McDonald set up Jobst on their second. Then Simon Holmstrom scored a beauty. And it was 3-0 after one. This being the 2019-20 Sound Tigers, they made it hard on themselves, gave up a short-handed goal (on which David Quenneville’s stick ricocheted off Jack Studnicka’s and basically speared Christopher Gibson through the mask in the face. Yeesh) and a late extra-attacker goal, and suddenly it was a one-goal game. But Bobo Carpenter finished it with an empty-netter from the red line. Gibson made 44 saves. Hey, a win. What do you know. For those four goal scorers, those were goals 2, 4, 4 and 1. Only the ninth time this year they’ve scored four, and two of those nine needed an empty-netter. The power play is on an 0-for-22. Offense is an adventure this year. Same lineup last night as Wednesday’s, minus Sebastian Aho and plus Quenneville, with some tweaked pairs; see if they get anybody back to end this weekend before next weekend’s three-in-four and four-in-six. Bode Wilde took warmup at least. Possible complication: Ryan Pulock took a hit late in last night’s game that had Andrew Gross wondering. That would be a blow to two rosters.
  • Meh, what else is going on: Kieffer Bellows didn’t score last night. But Carter Verhaeghe did.
  • RIP, John McGourty.
  • If this were a regular blog post, what word or phrase would most likely follow “More” at this point: during the week, maybe, but more likely Friday
