The Mark Hotel Earns Top Ranking from Premier Swiss Business Publication
Travel lends itself to lists and rankings, as everyone from the occasional leisure traveler to the seasoned business commuter has an opinion about where to stay, eat and visit. Occasionally a list appears that everyone should take seriously, one which combines cosmopolitan expertise with an understanding of today’s most noteworthy travel trends. The Mark Hotel has recently garnered recognition from such an outlet, Bilanz, one of the world’s leading business magazines. Switzerland’s preeminent business publication has bestowed The Mark Hotel with its coveted #1 rating in “The World’s 100 Best City Hotels” Award.
Located just steps away from Central Park and the center of the Museum mile, The Mark is considered an international leader in hospitality and the favorite choice for many savvy clients who are fortunate to reside often in some of the globe’s most legendary hotels. Clearly these world power players embrace French interior designer Jacques Grange’s first commercial project in the United States.
The esteemed Bilanz editors agree.
“Our new winner is a beautiful, relaxed refuge on the Upper East Side. The Mark in New York sets the standard worldwide in terms of service; when checking out the receptionist asks, what can we do better for your next stay?”
The Bilanz ranking is hardly the venerable 5-Star boutique property’s first accolade. A perennial member of Conde Nast Traveler’s Hot List & Gold List, The Mark was among Conde Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice Awards in 2014 and 2016. U.S. News & World Report includes The Mark among its Best Hotels in 2017, as it did in 2014 and 2015.
Many other non-travel publications also praise The Mark.
Like so many of its Upper East Side townhome neighbors, “The Mark is elegance devoid of any pretension and luxury without ostentation,” according to Le Point. Esquire notes “The Mark is a high point noted in a city known for stunning hotels. Higher praise we cannot really imagine.”
Time ravels even farther in its praise. “The Mark seems to know just how to sum things up perfectly. Maybe it’s the in-room dining manned by Jean-Georges, or perhaps it’s the stunning Jacques Grange-designed rooms and suites…either way, this magical Upper East Side gem is a Central Park–centric destination for the books.”
The Mark’s Michelin 3-Star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is one of several notables who consider this Manhattan location his own. The hotel contains a Frédéric Fekkai salon, a John Lobb shoe-shine kiosk, and the widest selection of suites in the city, ranging from 1,000 square feet to an extraordinary 12,000 square foot penthouse. Guests also enjoy access The Mark Bikes & The Mark Pedicabs. Should one wish to venture a little farther guests may charter The Mark’s Sailboat, a 70-foot Herreshoff S-Boat that is among the last of the iconic brand’s original sailboats built in 1929, for a three-hour journey in the New York Harbor.
As with all the world’s finest hotels, the Mark’s praise always returns to the staff and service, as in this comment from Harper’s Bazaar UK, “If you are looking for Upper East Side Chic you would be hard pressed to find a hotel more elegant than The Mark. Everything is so reassuringly confident about The Mark, including the bend-over-backwards service”
Clearly Bilanz stands among very good company when placing The Mark Hotel at the atop its ranking of The World’s 100 Best City Hotels.
