Pastoral scene at WestConn's midtown campus kicks off OBOC's 2011 program

The One Book, One Community committee lucked out with the weather today (Aug. 24) for the press conference about this year’s selection, “Farewell, My Subaru,” by Doug Fine. With everything set up outside the Ruth A. Haas Library on the midtown campus of Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, it seemed the only difficulty was a breeze that threatened two posters set up on tripods.

Dwarf Nigerian goats visited the Western Connecticut State University campus in midtown Danbury Aug. 24, as special guests for the One Book, One Community press conference.

Two important components of Fine’s story were the conversion of his ROAT (Ridiculously Oversized American Truck) to run on vegetable oil, and the antics of his two goats, Melissa and Natalie.
