Just for laughs, the lede from the Advocate one year ago…

Apr. 11–STAMFORD — Retirement wasn’t all it was cracked up to be for Bob Murray.

About five years ago, Murray, the director of the Health Department’s laboratory division, took an early retirement package. A week later, the city called, realizing they had allowed their most qualified medical director to leave. The next day, Murray was back in his Government Center laboratory, testing water quality, lead levels, shellfish beds and Lyme disease.

It’s a nice idea — but Malloy offered his employees early retirement when running Stamford at least three times, in 1996 (immediately on taking office), 1998, and 2002. As he said in 2002, “This is not a reduction for efficiency’s sake. This is a reduction because of the state of the economy.” He bragged about securing budget cuts through early retirement in his “exit interview” with the Advocate last November.

It’s a good thing we have an experienced Mayor running for Governor — it’s just too bad that his campaign is contradicting his actual record in office.
