Democrats have been fixing elections for generations. ACORN was just a more recent example. As you can see by some of the above comments, there are many democrats who are OK with this tradition.

    Chris Shays was FIRED!
    Go away you worthless has-been.
Try getting a real job instead of sucking on the public teat like you did for most of your working life.

Let’s hold a special election…redo the election..in Bridgeport and New Haven.

  4. TruthInGovernment says:

Can you say major corruption…also..Himes won by only 500 votes..so..I would say that race was also altered.

Bridgeport in a town of 62,000 registered voters..the Democratic Registrar only ordered 21,000 ballots..why? I know what I think..this was done on purpose..allowing them to stuff the ballots..Himes would of lost and Foley would be governor…

Chris Shays shouldn’t be finger-pointing at anyone after the ineptitude and disservice he did to his constituents. don’t go away mad Chris, but please just go away. Those votes were counted in front of officials from State Election Enforcement, no chance of getting over with them sitting right in the faces of the people counting the ballots. The AP must have been using their fingers and toes to count.

  6. Roy says:

When I got to the polling site I was told the ballots ran out by 4:00.
Hopefully all the paper ballots were counted. There were 6 hours of
ballots counted and supervised by who? Seems a little convenient in
a highly Democratic city where Republican votes can be discounted!!!

Chris who!! What happen when Gore got more!! Get out of town you has been!!

Typical Neil Vigdor, who repeats the ridiculous suggestion of voter fraud, unchallenged, unanalysed, and without an opposing opinion. And he calls this garbage an “exclusive interview”?

Let’s get this straight, Neil. Bridgeport votes overwhelmingly Democratic. In 2008, Shays received just 21% of the vote in Bridgeport. Two years before, he garnered just 32% of the vote. Debicella and Himes were virtually tied in the other towns in the district. So it was obvious that Himes would win Bridgeport and the overall election, because Bridgeport votes overwhelmingly Democratic, and turnout was much stronger than in the previous off-year election. Yet somehow both “reporter” Neil Vigdor and rejected Republican politician Chris Shays suggest that “voter fraud” is involved? Give me a break!

If there was any fraud involved, it was targeted against Democrats, given how heavily Democratic Bridgeport votes. There was a massive shortage of ballots, which certainly resulted in mostly Democratic voters being turned away, or giving up and returning home without voting. So, far from hurting the Republican candidates, as “reporter” Neil Vigdor and Chris Shays insinuate, the ballot shortage clearly hurt Democratic candidates, who rely heavily on Bridgeport votes.

And Vigdor repeats without any perspective Shays’ charge of voter fraud in Bridgeport in 2008. Here’s the perspective: Shays complains about 600 votes, yet he lost the vote in that city by more than 21,000 votes. By no means could those 600 votes have changed the outcome of the election. But Hearst and Vigdor won’t point that out.

Here’s more perspective that Vigdor won’t print: the 600 questionable voter registrations were brought to the attention of the registrar of voters in Bridgeport by ACORN officials themselves. As they explained at the time, ACORN first vets all of the registration forms they receive, and separate out those that are either incomplete or falsely filled out. But by law, anyone helping someone fill out a voter registration form is required to submit that application to the registrar of voters. One may not simply throw out a filled-out voter registration form because one thinks it’s problematic. And ACORN officials did just that. None of the voters registered by ACORN has ever been found to have voted fraudulently. Not one.

And why didn’t the polls stay open later in New Canaan or Darien? Because there was no shortage of ballots there. No one was turned away from polling places there. No one had to wait in line for hours, as in Bridgeport, waiting to receive a ballot. It’s simple.

How about telling the truth next time, Neil? Want to add some truth to your reporting next time, Neil? Some perspective?

This election was so disappointing. Again Connecticut’s image is being tarnished. But, more importantly, sadly maybe an election is being stolen. Chris Shays is right. Why should the polls be kept open in one town and not in others. Logically how could anyone order so few official ballots be printed but then the same officials turn around and allow angry residents to vote on hastily xeroxed makeshift replacements. Yesterday in all the confusion were everyone’s credentials closely checked? ….. particularly after 8PM. I doubt it. At the very minimum there should be a recount.

  10. annyct says:

You are “right on” Mr. Shays! This is a Catherine Harris tactic by the Secretary of State! Unconscionable and despicable. This election reeks of being rigged!

  11. Dave Moore says:

Maybe Chris should tell us how many contributions he accepted from the health insurance industry to fight laws that would have prevented insurance companies from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions.

I am so glad this unethical jackass is no longer representing us. Chris you no longer live here. You are not even a resident here. So shut the hell up!
