You know, Meghan, it has to be hard to be leading (though narrowly) in the polls, and then watch the results come in in your favor, and then suddenly see your lead overcome by results from one town where there were several miscues. Foley is not an experienced candidate and is probably being urged to cry foul by cynical party people.

I can’t blame him for wanting to think about it over the weekend; and i dont see any harm in it either. After all, a concession speech is purely form; it has no real effect.

But he should concede Monday, and acknowledge the process was appropriate. If he doesnt. then you can call him a sore loser and an embarrassment. So far, he is just stunned

  2. Meghan says:

Tom Foley is an embarrassment. A sore loser, and a complete embarrassment.

  3. Mo says:

Foley is done. He lost because he thought the cities didn’t matter and wanted to make his friends more money on the backs of working families. It was a poor strategy and he deserved to lose. Concede already and float into oblivion where you belong Mr Foley!

  4. Laurie from Connecticut says:

Mr. Foley is just postponing the inevitable. Were mistakes made? Yes. Should the State learn a lesson from this? Yes. Did Tom Foley will the election for Governor? NO. Move on. Stop behaving like a spoiled rich kid, oh wait…that’s what he is. He and his machine are trying to come up with as many skimpy reasons to delay the inevitable and they hope something will stick. Foley – you lost. The big cities beat you. Take your silver spoon and go back to Greenwich.

  5. Mel Curran says:

The Bridgeport Register of Voters are incompetent and embarrassing to the Nation Election Process. Not only did they disenfranchised the voters of Bridgeport, by not having enough ballots, but people walked away when the ballots ran out! I don’t think someone should loose their job, but they should be suspended without pay!

  6. Jack says:

Its over. Foley should concede and move on to his next scheme. He would have ruined the state. Thank God he lost!

  7. annyct says:

Empty lot addresses, double ballots placed in folders, insufficient ballots…it reeks of rigging! This is a “tradition” in our state…we’re not rated 13th most corrupt for nothing! We are in the top 5 of the most heavily taxed and 1 of 7 who endures a tax on our social security. The question will remain, Did CT residents vote for more of the same? More “Tax and Spend” by Malloy?

  8. Al says:

To all of those who commented here. Keep in mind the person who made the mistake in Bridgeport over the ballot’s is a Republican. That speaks volumes for those in the Republican Party.

  9. Sue D says:

I think there should definitely be a recount of votes and not only in Bridgeport but any other place that is suspect of wrong doing. The registrars of voters should be fired for not planning on having enough ballots for the number of registered voters. If each ballot cost money and they didn’t want to waste money then why were they passing out pizza to the people standing in line waiting to vote after 8:00 p.m. Who paid for that? The taxpayers obviously. This is why the state of CT is in such a mess!

Recount please! We certainly don’t need the wrong person in office just because votes were counted correctly in Bridgeport. Maybe we need to have the votes re-tallied for Governor throughout the state. Let’s get with it folks or we are in for years of tax increases. It will be a mass evacuation from CT to a state without the taxes that will be imposed on CT residents.

Talk about a pick your poison election …

  11. srb says:

Difference btw a Republican who wins by a nail bite and a Democrat, when the former win’s its the voters speaking out and the Dem’s are merely sore losers trying to unconstitutionally change the result (eg. Bush), when a Democrat wins a nail biter (eg. Franken, and now Malloy) its due to “shenanigans” and voter fraud

  12. Sarah D. says:

    Tom Foley should gracefully concede.
The final tally from Bridgeport looks like it puts Malloy over the top.
These conspiracy theories are bunk. Maybe some stupid mistakes were made, but I see no evidence of outright systemic voter fraud. The hysteria factor on this is laughable, foisted by a bunch of rich Republicans from Greenwich, no doubt.
Cool off, take a chill pill. Dan Malloy is the winner.
We read about “leaders do the right thing.” Well, the “right thing to do” for Tom Foley right now is to make a very gracious and intelligently thoughtful concession speech, in which he not only congratulates Mr. Malloy, but also puts the hysteria to rest.
If he does otherwise, he will contribute to the black eye factor that the State of Connecticut now has.
It’s time to concede, heal, and move forward.

  13. UOB says:

The Foley campaign will probably not be able to get in the front court door based on a recount basis. However, they will be able to get in court for a hearing and request for a new election at the 12 polling precincts in question. The basis of this request will be that “but for the actions of the Bridgeport Registrars of Voters, registered individuals were disenfranchised from their right to vote.”

The Foley campaign will try to get the proverbial second bite of the apple hoping to get a new election that would be substantially lower in turnout for those 12 precincts.

  14. dacaesar says:

Here’s the bottom line – anyone from the republican side that’s complaining is just plain ignorant. The people who lost out in Bridgeport are the ones that were denied the right to vote i.e. no ballot available when their turn came to cast. It’s unequivocal that they are statistically more likely to be a Malloy voter.

To vote in Essex where I live, you just stroll up, get kindly directed to the table of where your street is, show ID, and then vote. The whole process takes less than 5 minutes. That’s how it should be for anyone in the state.

  15. Ted says:

A bunch of election officials in Bridgeport should go to jail. They are more then stupid and incompetent they are crooks.

  16. RagsTTiger says:

In sports we call this a home court job. All the public wants to know is that every legal vote counts and that the veterans votes arrived. It would appear a recount should be conducted to clear everyone’s concerns.

  17. matt says:

not the facts would matter to you, but the empty lot you’re talking about isn’t the address of the people voting by AB, it’s the mistaken address the person who signed out the applications for the ABs used. they meant to put the address of their campaign HQ, which was down the block. actual ballots are only sent to the registered voters who correctly and completely submit one of those applications which can be signed out by anyone. the person who provides a voter with an absentee ballot application never touches an actual ballot.

  18. Shawn says:

why are you republicans complaining?? You guys are lucky bpt ran out of ballots or u guys would have even lost by more votes.

  19. wtfisgoingon says:

Why hasnt the fbi stepped in yet? how do you misplace a bag of ballots, If they can get away with things like this what else can they get away with

  20. dacaesar says:

In what bizarro world would Democrats who wanted Malloy to win, plot to have Bridgeport be short a sufficient amount of ballots? If any “shenanigans” were afoot in this regard, it would more likley be people wanting to disenfranchise urban voters the right to vote when they enter ill-prepared polling centers. We clearly saw pictures offrustrated voters walk away, and probably not returning. I’m not saying that’s the case. At this point, I’ll more likely chalk it up to registrars’ incompetance, excacerbated by a flawed system.

  21. Pete says:

Foley should absolutely pursue all legal avenues available. How embarrassing for the State of Connecticut. I also don’t see where Bysiewicz gets off announcing victory with unofficial numbers. Easy does it Susan, you’re not Attorney General for a reason.

  22. Chris says:

He should pursue every legal avenue because in my opinion, based on what I have read, it appears this election and the results were seriously compromised. 200+ absentee ballots with their address as an empty lot, a bag of ballots found sitting around in Brideport two days after the election, Bysiewicz making pronouncements without the official numbers tallied. Are you kidding, this sounds like Venezula, and it smells rotten.
