I support Esty’s position here. Pledges just distract from the issues, as this flap over whether Donovan went negative or not demonstrates. Discuss things that voters care about and trust them to decide if a candidate is too negative.

Donovan does not want his voting record discussed. He considers that negative. After Bush eliminated the federal death tax, Donovan got it reinstituted for the Connecticut State Income Tax. 50% 0f Americans pay no income tax. Thanks to Donovan, Connecticut now has the earned income credit on the state income tax. 67 million people in the U.S. have an income of $32,700 from all the combined government assistance programs. Why would a taxpayer vote for Donovan to replace Chris Murphy in the House of Representatives when Murphy votes with Obama all the time? Why vote for Murphy for Senate to continue voting for Obama’s programs? A taxpayer voting for Obama, Chris Donovan, or Chris Murphy is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.
