Malloy is an idiot. All he has to do is look around and see all the gone out of business storefronts. What is he thinking. Maybe he’s better off because the idiots in CT voted him in, but that’s where “better off” ends. What a jackass and the people of CT are saddled with him because there are those who have to vote democrat even they vote for incompetent, self-agrandizing morons like malloy.

  2. begtodiffer says:

I was born and raised in this state and after 50 years, I’ve had enough of it. This man is an arrogant, hypocritical sociopath who has not only destroyed Connecticut’s economy, but has also destroyed public education with his iron-hand dictatorship. Our governor is just plain mean and his wife is a narcissist, plastic bimbo who drives a “shitty” car.

  3. Megan says:

Frankly, I wouldn’t trust the Governor of Connecticut telling me that I’m “better off.” Nor would I trust all the signs in Stamford calling it “The City That Works.” I’ve lived in four states in the past five years and I can vouch that Connecticut is the worst of the four (and one of those states was California). I’m so sick of people giving me crap about how great Connecticut is. The roads are horrible, the public services are nearly non-existent, and even being in the top 5% of earners, my husband and I still can’t afford to purchase a home. We save over half of our income and give over 10% of it to charity, but home ownership is still out of our league. Democrats are welcome to claim responsibility for the poor train service to Manhattan, lack of infrastructure, lack of emergency preparedness plans, and overpriced everything. We’re scraping by in spite of the Democrats in government, not because of them. And we’re counting down the number of days until we can leave this cursed state and live some place without potholes and ridiculous property taxes.

  4. Angela says:

Check out what his wife said in a different article.
She said she drives a “Shitty car.”
    No joke

  5. vin verco says:

Will somebody explain to me how this moron got elected? Our biggest cities look like Beirut, unemployment is STILL SOARING, Businesses not bribed by Danny boy to stay, with the taxpayers money of course, are running outta here. This jerk went to Sweden to pretend to look for jobs and now he says we are all better off now than we were. This guy is a bad joke because nothing he says is based on any reality I know.

  6. Dau Tieng 59 says:

The students are being screwed by the Colleges and University not the banks.

Malloy is totally out of touch.

He’s going to increase jobs in CT by raising taxes, which is what he does. He raised taxes every year he was mayor of Stamford and when they elected him Governor he surprised them by raising taxes. Gee, who knew?

If Ct did better than 40+ other states there can’t be a recovery. The only people that are better off than four years ago are the pols and their friends.

  7. Matthew Oakes says:

Any educated person that doesn’t watch FOX or listen to the Koch brothers knows the country is actually better off.

  8. NICK says:

CT cities are war zones, Bridgeport, New London, Hartford,New Britain. When he could not get a deal with the state unions, they buckled and changed the rules. State Police levels are not what they should be, so of course the people of the state are less safe. Highest gas tax in the country and we get nothing for it, needed Obama stimulus (payback) to repair the roads. Increased every tax and fee and then added more. Wanted to tax the car you trade in to buy a new one, glad he didn’t get that one. Stop electing democrats to the state legislature. And the reasons Republican governors talked about themselves, they spoke of what they did as leaders to make formerly democrat controlled states better.

  9. Publius says:

What a clearly well-organized group of partisan posts. The problem is that they express more anger than reality.

Are we better off than we were four years ago? As I recall, four years ago, seemingly out of nowhere, Pres Bush announced a major economic problem threatening to collapse the world economy. That started the US economy on a downward spiral that was well in progress when Obama took over. The spiral cut the stock market averages almost in half within a year. Emergency action was taken (under Bush) to bail out first the banks and then the auto companies. Economists were warning of the potential of a major depression.

Today, four years later, the economy is recovering, slower than we might like, but recovering. The fear of a major depression has disappeared. We are on the way up again.

As for Malloy and Stamford, it is hard to see that Malloy was bad for Stamford. In fact, taxes in Stamford are lower than almost any city in the NY Metropolitan area. That can easily be checked. And…over the years, taxes in Stamford have risen well below the rate of housing values. When i purchased my home 40 years ago, my taxes were 2% of its value. Today my taxes are about 1.25% of its value.

  10. Mutley says:

Friend of mine just moved his small business (less than 25 employees) to North Carolina. Reason he gave: 1) Property taxes too high, 2) small business taxes too high, 3) diesel fuel too expense for his delivery truck, 4) health insurance out of sight, 5) we have a governor who is out of touch with the people, and 6) cost of living in North Carolina is cheaper than here. Also, all 25 employees are moving with him. So why is it we have a governor who thinks we are better off than we were 4 years ago? I think those Democrats are smoking something funny. We should give a drug test to the whole convention. Bet the jails will be full.

  11. PJ says:

Malloy AND Obama BOTH need to go! Malloy hasn’t a clue as to improving the economy in CT and he’s proven it! So, if this clown thinks things are better now than they were 4 years ago, this state is in real danger!

  12. Christian says:

Malloy is completely out of touch – maybe even delusional. He screwed up Stamford and left us with skyrocketing property taxes. Now he is doing it to the rest of the State. He thinks we’re better off than 4 years ago??? The man is a flaming moron.

  13. Chris says:

This from a man who presides over a state that was rated the most fiscally insolvent by Barron’s and rated the 4th worst state in which to retire in a recent study. Sort of like the kid with hands and face covered in chocolate telling you he didn’t invade the cookie jar. Keep taxing and spendind Danny boy until you run out of other people’s money!

  14. jschmidt says:

Oh come on- give the gov a break. He’s just looking for his next job in the Obama admin. He doesn’t care about CT as long he carried on the Dems tradition of sticking it to the taxpayer and giving the unions everything they want. He would know a good economy if he tripped over it.

  15. bobby says:

Malloy is a joke. How this moron got elected should be investigated.

  16. Len Doherty says:

As a relatively recent transplant from Taxachusetts, I can state in no uncertain terms that CT is retrenching rather than recovering. Malloy, his cohorts in the state legislature and representatives in Congress are anti-business, pro- government stooges of public labor unions and other left wing groups.

  17. richief says:

Maybe He is better off. Maybe government employees are better off.
Maybe the wankin bankers are better off.
Maybe all the people that sukle on the teet of government programs are better off.
However the Country of America is in decline for exactly these reasons, and made far, far worse through B.O..

  18. Jorge Hispanoza says:

Didn’t I just see a New Times article saying that “experts” indiate that Connecticut’s financial situatio is much worse then previously thought?

  19. Juliana says:

No amount of cheerleading will put food on anybody’s table nor change years of failed leadership.

  20. DBCG says:

There are a few hundred thousand of us Connecticut residents that take issue with being better off today than four years ago.

Malloy has ruined our state, and made this evern worse than Obama has.

  21. Nemesys says:

Well, if Malloy means he and his crony capitalist friends, then yes, “We” are doing great. If he means everyone else, then who is really out of touch, Dannel?

For that matter, how is it that Malloy complains of “old” policies when the featured speakers at the convention are Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter?

Whatever the Democrats say about the Republicans is always more true about themselves. Let’s keep score this week.

  22. dave wilsoon says:

Is this guy for real? He has mangled the finances of a state already mired in a death spiral with his half-truths and con artist mentality.
Who do you know is better off now? He will tax us back to the stone age
while handing out tax breaks to his crony corporate friends, who have donated wildly to his campaigns. He needs to get lost quick

  23. Bob says:

Can’t prove it with statistics…home prices are still down. Mortgages are underwater. Employment figures don’t keep up with the population growth. Politicians still get their salaries, benefits, pensions, and healthcare…Government is just about the largest employer in the USA and you can’t keep up with the costs of healthcare and public sector pensions.

  24. Mike Marsalisi says:

What a laugh, our governor is the most out of touch of all of the out of touch liberal tax and spend democrats. Connecicut is dying a slow death thanks to him and he thinks things are getting better than they were four years ago? Someone should ask him which planet is he taling about.

  25. Ron says:

Really? Wow this guy has lost it. No one is better off now.

  26. Uncledave says:

Delusional, say anything, feckless politician. From Scamford Corrupticut.

  27. D Yonson says:

Better off today??? Malloy is only a governor and he is out of touch with what the average person (most of us!) is experiencing. Maybe it’s just me going through tough times.

  28. Tom says:

Yes it’s easy for Malloy to say that. Anytime he needs money he goes to his Fairfield County ATM. Just continue to spend spend and spend. Yes you will get re-elected because people love free stuff. Just don’t be surprised when the well runs dry.

  29. jsp81355 says:

Is Stamford better off? HELL NO Mr. Malloy.

  30. Ctyankee1776 says:

Of course we’re better off… Will a demonKrap lie to us?
Malloy = tax & spend = poor economics

  31. sadinbpt says:

he must not live in bridgeport

  32. Jim says:

This guy is so out of touch….it’s actually sad.

  33. garyl says:

WHAT A DUMB ASS – LOOK AT CT – THIS A–HOLE IS TAXING PEOPLE OUT OF THE STATE.

  34. BCT says:

And that’s why unemployment in CT is increasing along with the state’s budget deficit?

  35. Harold says:

If Malloy says we are better off then we are not.

  36. David Cooper says:

Gov. Malloy when he rants about the GOP wanting to lower taxes for the 1% he failed to mention that he believes that the government should give the 1% Tax credits! The perfect example of his policy is to give the Bridgewater Group, a Hedge fund, whose owner made 3.9 billion dollars a tax credit of 115 million to relocate their HQ from Westport,CT to Stamford,CT. Gov. Malloys’ policies are not much more different than the GOPs’, trickle down economists, where nobody looks after the little people!!

  37. John says:

Gov. Malloy is just wrong. The country is IMMEASURABLE worse than it was 4 years ago. The economy is going nowhere, thanks to anti-business, anti-success for taking risk rhetoric. The debt has ballooned from horrific wasteful spending. Four years of Democrat policies have not worked – unemployment is high and sustained. You can forget the Catholic and tradional marriage vote ; and Independents will go for someone else to try to move the economy. Obama is done.
