Yeah lady, I work for the government, like your dear hubby. But unlike your hubby, I actually work. I’m in the armed forces, you see, and my wife drives an old Honda that’s been hit. She wears her seatbelt and is a sensible woman, unlike you, you sniveling, efete leftist. You damn near make me want to vomit, but I won’t waste vomit on a worthless wretch. I’ll save my constructive criticism for those I can teach and mentor. Unlike you, who views others as inferior cretins worthy only of service to you as you see fit.

And exactly what constitutes a “Shitty” car in their household? A 2005 infinity? A 2007 Lexus. A (nervous cough) H2. Heaven forfend… a Honda or *sob* Toyota!!

  16. stiglitz says:

Ooh! I am ever so troubled to hear that you are treated like a 2nd class citizen w/o your 1st class hubby!! whatever shall we do, Mrs. Antoinette? Are you not allowed tea and crumpets with the real Marie Antoinette (Fatass Michelle Obama)? Are you not allowed your mid-morning two-lobster snack like that Klingon? Dang. Hard life like the rest of us, eh? STFU and do something useful.

  17. dano48 says:

Because she got pulled over for not wearing her seat belt, and then wasn’t immediately given preferential treatment because she’s the governor’s wife, she thinks that’s being treated like a “second class citizen”? So, is she saying the rest of us who would have been treated the same way, are second class citizens?

  18. bandit says:

Is she really implying she shouldn’t be stopped if the police know she’s the governors wife?

  20. Micha Elyi says:

Mrs. Romney sets a good example, one that Cathy Malloy should follow.

  21. David Perry says:

“Reading between the lines here, but it doesn’t sound like her real point was to complain about the car or insinuate that the cops should have given her a pass.”

I probably wouldn’t buy that anyway, but I definitely don’t buy it given that she started her remarks by talking about how “people do not appreciate people in public life the way they should.” No, actually, we give you folks all the appreciation you deserve right now.

“I think the point is to lament that this uninteresting, hum-drum and inconsequential event (pulled over for not wearing her seat belt) made national news simply because she’s the wife of a governor. The event affects nobody — it’s of interest because the public enjoys shitting on politicians and thus enjoys reading about their embarrassment.”

Actually, it’s quite consequential, since this is theoretically a country where the people who run things are supposed to obey the rules like everyone else. The fact that, in practice, it usually doesn’t work that way is precisely why the public enjoys dumping on politicians.

  22. Angela says:

    SHITTY? SHITTY???
Only SECOND-HAND citizens use that sort of language in public.
I would love to hear that night’s dinner conversation between her and her husband.
I’ll bet the Sh*t hit the fan that night.
    What a stupid woman.

  23. John Davies says:

Since I drive myself all the time, do I lead a second class life?

  24. S P Dudley says:

But ragging on Bristol Palin is totally fair game…

  25. BLBeamer says:

I guess I’m full time 2nd class, then, since I never travel with security (or her husband).

Even though she complains about being part-time second class, she will always be 100% low class to me.

  26. ChurchSox says:

“…[P]eople do not appreciate people in public life the way they should.”

Yes, we do. If you’re going around telling people how they should feel about you, you deserve to be beaten up, and forced to drive a shitty car.

Before you find yourself telling other adults how to behave or what to think, ask yourself two questions:

    1. “Just who do I think I am?”
    2. “Why don’t I step off?”

These are the questions we’re thinking but are too polite to ask.

  27. Phideaux says:

I thought that Malloy got rid of his fancy foreign car and replaced it with a clunker for the optics during the campaign – to appeal to the little people. Guess his wife got stuck with the piece of crap car after the election. My question – why was she upset that the State Police didn’t recognise her – was she trying to get out of the ticket based on who her husband is? Wow – a modern feminist.

  28. Big Bob from KY says:

Let’s back up just a bit – obey the laws of your state and this would never have happened. So, next time, buckle your seat belt you Democrat moron (yes, I know, I repeat myself) and you’ll not be stopped by the law for that particular violation.

  29. Joe says:

    “… We’re pretty second-class without them.”

You mean, like the peons your hubby rules over?

    Second-class? lady, you’re classless.

  30. Matt says:

Hey – I drive a sh*tty car too, but I don’t drop the Governor’s name when I get pulled over in order to get out of a ticket.

Clearly, that’s what she was doing.

Laws are for the little people, right?

  31. JohnnyL says:

“In April I drove to work and I forgot to put my seat belt on, and I was pulled over by police.”

Translation: Laws are for the little people…you know…the second class citizens.

I hope that cop gave her a ticket.

  32. Largebill says:

How dare those lowly police officers attempt to treat her as a normal human being who broke the law? Don’t they realize that she is better than the rest of us because of her husband’s job? //Sarc off//

This broad exemplifies our problem with career politicians. They and their entitled family members think they should not be subject to the same onerous laws they impose on rest of us. Message to me is loud and clear. Anyone voting for her husband is basically endorsing her attitude!

  33. Daedalus Mugged says:

Seguin, She was expressing shock and disgust at being treated like a mere commoner, when she is in the elite.

She couldn’t even pull rank on the cop, or more specifically, she tried and it didn’t work because we didn’t provide the governor’s wife with a security detail and transportation commensurate with her status. Appalling, really, how we Americans treat our political betters as mere citizens.

  34. Sarge says:

    So many to choose from:

    1) The only reason she would have had in trying to convince a police officer that she was “the Governor’s wife” would be if she was trying to get out of a legitimate ticket (she admitted she was not wearing her seatbelt) by using political influence to intimidate an officer of the law – – a crime in most places. Otherwise, who her husband “is” would not matter.

    2) “Governor’s Wife” is not an elected position; if she’s trying to claim some sort of benefit should be conferred to her simply for being the spouse of a governor, or to her children, she doesn’t seem to grasp this whole “democracy” thing very well, does she?

    3) Buy a better car if you’re ashamed of what you drive, or don’t feel it reflects your ‘station’ in life properly to those around you. Governors make a more than adequate salary to afford a decent car for their wife. Likewise, if she thinks she deserves a chauffeur, she should hire one out of her own pocket, and create a private sector job in CT.

  35. dan says:

So to be without a private car or security detail is to be second class? I hope she enjoys taking a step back into being hoi polloi when we vote her husband out in ’14.

  36. Who Cares? says:

There is nothing as offensive as one of these limousine liberals whining about their plight in life while they pull down 6 and even 7-figure incomes and while they insist that they’re just like everyone else. Meanwhile, these crumb-lickers try to weasel their way out of paying fines or paying retail for anything they buy. I’ve got a friend who once owned an appliance store in an upscale area of north Jersey who said that his worst customers were politicians, lawyers and doctors – in that order. They always wanted a ‘special deal’, complained constantly, and paid their bills slow – – or not at all.

    Cathy Malloy fits.

  37. DJMoore says:

So, Ms. Malloy, here’s the deal:

You think you’re fit to tell the rest of us how to live our lives, down to the tiniest details?

Then you better be prepared to prove it by allowing us to examine your life, down to the tiniest detail.

Otherwise, if enough wanna-be politicians get run off by “press scrutiny”, maybe there won’t be enough to do the vital of work of bossing we proles around, and we’ll just have to fend for ourselves.

    Boo bloody hoo.

And @John re Sarah Palin: Right on.

  38. Who Cares? says:

So, she drives a shitty car. Lots of us drive shitty cars. But when we get pulled over for a traffic offense, we don’t apologize for our shitty car while we remind the officer that we’re the spouse of a really important public offcial, hoping that we won’t get a citation.

Perhaps Ms. Cathy “I Drive a Shitty Car” Malloy should spend some of that moolah she gets from her sinecure 6-figure job that she landed bacause her husband is our inept and clueless commie governor.

    I get it.

    We all get it.

Now, the Malloys need to get it.

  39. Morgan says:

Re: Cathy’s shitty car – Maybe Tom Foley could loan her one of his, or his mother’s 1972 Buick

  40. gonetoworkbbackin5min says:

So the “foist lady” say to da cop: DONT YOU KNOW WHO I AM?

  41. Jerry says:

She drives a “really shitty car”? Evidence, please. Actually, a competent media would tell us what she drives. My guess is a three year old Lexus.

And she’s a “second class citizen” because she isn’t assigned her own security detail. I know just how she feels. Many’s the time I felt like a second class citizen because no one provides me with a bodyguard. It’d be so handy to have a State Trooper to carry the groceries.

  42. Kev says:

Yeah, I don’t rate any bodyguards either. Guess that makes me second-class too…

  43. Doowleb says:

Once the cop found out who she was…did she get a ticket?
    Any bets?

  44. submandave says:

The point is buried at the beginning, “people do not appreciate people in public life the way they should.” See, she needs to be appreciated (for what I don’t know), so you shouldn’t give her any crap.

  45. Jack Squat Bupkis says:

I think the point is to lament that this uninteresting, hum-drum and inconsequential event (pulled over for not wearing her seat belt) made national news simply because she’s the wife of a governor. The event affects nobody — it’s of interest because the public enjoys shitting on politicians and thus enjoys reading about their embarrassment.

Reading between the lines here, but it doesn’t sound like her real point was to complain about the car or insinuate that the cops should have given her a pass.

  46. Ernie G. says:

    So if you’re not a politician or a politician’s spouse, you’re a 2nd-class citizen?

If her family was part of the GOP, I have no doubt there’d be a dozen reporters clamoring to verify just what type of car she considers “shitty.”

  47. Bob says:

Don’t politicians make laws? Like the ones requiring people to wear seat belts?

  48. Paul A'Barge says:

My heart bleeds for this expletive-deleted. These are precisely the people the Tea Party wants to drive out of office and eventually out of the cultural town square.

I have zero sympathy for anyone who thinks that she deserves tax-payer dollar funded security or a nice car or a pass because she married someone who decided to run for public office.

Here is a free clue-bat to Cathy Malloy: get out. Get your husband out. Take your entitlement attitude with you. And make no mistake, we all notice that you are a Democrat.

    You pathetic loser.

  49. mike p says:

So by ‘second class’ she presumably means ‘subject to motor vehicle laws’? What arrogance.

  50. jon spencer says:

Her NOT here. I was typing faster than thinking.

  51. jon spencer says:

The way that this reads, only people with a Security Detail are first class citizens.
Will someone ask here what is the difference between First and Second Class citizens?
“And I was driving myself, because of course, governor’s wives only get security when we’re with our husbands. We’re pretty second-class without them.” “

  52. aceofspudz says:

“What’s up with that? Was she trying to talk herself out of the citation by pulling rank on the cop? (“Don’t you know who I am!”)”

Laws are for the little people! I’m flabbergasted at what she was trying to say. Taken at face value it is some seriously disconnected aristo behavior.

  53. D Palmer says:

Also, I’m glad to hear she doesn’t have police protection. Most governors shouldn’t have it, much less their spouses.

  54. D Palmer says:

How do you ‘forget’ to put on your seat belt in this day and age?

Unless you are driving something from the early 70’s the car will beep loudly at you and probably illuminate an idiot light on the dash to remind you.

It’s so automatic now that half the time I go to put it on only to find I already did and I’m 47, so I was driving well before mandatory seat belt laws came into being.

  55. MrJimm says:

So…. tell me again exactly why it was important that the policeman who pulled you over didn’t believe you were the governor’s wife? I mean, hardly anybody I know tells patrol officers who they’re married to when they get pulled over…

And I didn’t hear any complaints about the size of the fine you had to pay… you DID have to pay a fine, right, just like the rest of us peons?

  56. Foobarista says:

I gather she talked her way out of the ticket. God forbid that a cop give a ticket to the wife of an elected official. But I guess her point is she shouldn’t have to drive at all and should be chauffeured about like she’s Kim Jong-un’s wife or something.

  57. comatus says:

    Send picture of car.

  58. Andrew X says:

Does it occur to these people that, the larger and more intrusive we make our government, the more we force politics to become an absolute bloodsport, since those who have so abjectly schemed and clawed to achieve power over us are now going to be subjected both absurd scrutiny and vicious attacks. How can they not be? Every element of our lives, down to what we are allowed to eat, drive, and learn, literally depends on who wins and loses.

Scale back the intrusiveness, and all of a sudden the knicky knack details and nonsensical accusations don’t matter as much.

  59. mikee says:

“…governor’s wives only get security when we’re with our husbands. We’re pretty second-class without them.”

Oddly enough, neither I nor my wife gets taxpayer funded security to travel about town with us when we are doing our chores. In our shitty cars.

It is good, however, to know that you think of every one of your constituents as second class citizens.

  60. Stella Baskomb says:

” I was driving myself, because of course, governor’s wives only get security when we’re with our husbands. We’re pretty second-class without them.”

Yeah, Cathy, I know how it is sista.

Every day, I feel I’m a second-class citizen because Dannel Malloy doesn’t ride to work with me.

He never writes. He won’t return my calls.

    The scoundrel.

  61. coach S says:

Most of us black and brown people drive really shitty cars. I’ll trade up if I know it’ll get the police off my back.

  62. Soylent Red says:

Gee whiz…the people treat politicians (i.e. their employees) badly? That’s pretty rough. You should really look for a better job, one that affords you the kind of respect you feel you deserve.

All politicians should be required by law to, twice a year, be bound hand and foot and carted around their constituencies in a tumbrel, subject to pelting with rotten cabbages and spit. Just to remind them.

  63. MJMJ says:

Clearly, she expected the police officer to let her off because she’s the governor’s wife. Nice.

  64. Ed says:

It must be tough to get pulled over by the police and to be treated like everyone else (as if you were “second class”) instead of being treated like royalty as you deserve.

  65. RonF says:

Why it should make a difference that they didn’t know she was the governor’s wife is beyond me. But is she saying that her getting a ticket made the national news because she was the governor’s wife?

  66. john says:

So a law that was passed by people like her husband was applied to her because she stepped outside her protected bubble and rubbed shoulders with us second class citizens. That poor woman. She only gets security when she’s with her husband!!

  67. Don Surber says:

I am sympathetic. Did she speak out against the harassment of Todd Palin or Ann Romney?

  68. seguin says:

I don’t get the point of her little story. Does she think she should be exempt from the same penny-ante bull@#$@ laws the rest of us have to deal with, or is she just trying to say that she DOES have to deal with them, and she’s a regular person just like the rest of us?

  69. Baby M says:

“In April I drove to work and I forgot to put my seat belt on, and I was pulled over by police. Of course, they had no idea who I was because I drive this really shitty car, and they didn’t believe that I was the governor’s wife in this shitty car.”

What’s up with that? Was she trying to talk herself out of the citation by pulling rank on the cop? (“Don’t you know who I am!”)

  70. Vulture says:

My heart bleeds for you. Now $TFU

  71. jschmidt says:

A women and her husband who are totally out of touch with the real world of working people. She obviously thinks she is special instead of the wife of inept Governor. I invite the governor to get out of the fire and leave office if it is too much.

  72. Phil Peluso says:

Not at all! Often politician’s have violated the people’s trust!
Those in public service have done things that servered their own needs and not thiose of the people who have elected them. There has often been, graft, abuse and total violations of the public office to which they serve! They need scrutiny and oversight. Especially, in Stamford where Malloy was Mayor and his recent dealings with Southpoint project and Brewer’s Boatyard and the people of Stamford.

  73. Jack F says:

So the media caused her to not wear a seat belt? This our first lady? Scary!

  74. Doug says:

Aww, poor Cathy. She’s right. Why should the law apply to her?
