Minutes after the State Elections Enforcement Commission recommended a criminal investigation into Rep. Christina Ayala and her mother Santa Ayala, former Bridgeport registrar of voters, Speaker of the House J. Brendan Sharkey stripped the lawmaker of her membership on the Appropriations, Housing and Children committees.
“For an elected official, maintaining the public trust is paramount,” he said in a statement. “The fact that this case has moved to a different level calls into question whether that trust has been breached. Until this matter is resolved, I have relieved Representative Ayala of her membership from her assigned legislative committees.” The commission found that the representative provided an inaccurate address for voting qnd running for office and it believes Santa Ayala was aware of the misleading information.
