Like legendary bank robber Willie Sutton said, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy heads to California “where the money is.”

The governor is flying out to California with Jonathan Harris, executive director of the Democratic State Central Committee for some left-coast fund-raising functions for Connecticut Democrats this weekend in San Francisco. Andrew Doba, the governor’s Capitol spokesman, released bare-bones details a few minutes ago, while State Central folks are only saying it’s fund-raising for State Central. That raises the possibility of a wild, ’70s-era party at Gov. Jerry Brown’s.

“Governor Malloy is representing the Connecticut Democratic Party at events this weekend that are central to party building,” said James Hallinan, state party spokesman. “As such, the Connecticut Democratic Party is paying for the Governor’s travel.” He declined further details.
