Lucie not only founded the McKinney House in Fairfield which is NOT a shelter, but permanent housing for families in which at least one person has HIV/AIDS. McKinney House opened after she filed suit and won a landmark lawsuit against the town, which didn’t want “those people” living there. She was also a co-founder of the CT AIDS Residence Coalition (now, AIDS CT) in 1989, which now has 24 programs providing housing and support to people living with HIV/AIDS across the state. She was small, but mighty and has left an indelible mark on this state. I, for one, will miss her energy and inspiration.
