Environmentalist protesters target Greenwich summit of Democratic governors

Protest

Rolaids won’t help relieve these gas pains.

Greenwich, where Democratic governors from at least four states put out the welcome mat for big-time donors, is the latest front in the anti-fracking movement.

About two dozen environmentalists picketed outside the Hyatt Regency Greenwich Thursday — site of a Democratic Governors Association policy summit — to protest against the controversial practice of extracting natural gas from deep rock formations.

The two-day summit is being hosted by Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who recently supported a bipartisan compromise that places a moratorium on the disposal of fracking waste in the state until July 1, 2017.

By the deadline, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection must present proposed regulations on the handling of fracking waste to the General Assembly.
