Gov. Malloy, in East Hartford, tees off on challenger Tom Foley’s school plan

dantreeThe day after Republican Tom Foley announced an urban agenda that could allow parents to withdraw their children from failing public schools, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, at Robert O’Brien Middle School on Farm Drive in East Hartford, bashed the plan. He warned that Foley would literally close schools.

“Tom Foley will take our schools — and all of Connecticut — backwards,” Malloy said in a statement. “He will shut down schools like he closes factories and mills. He would close schools that he deems failures like he did mills at the Bibb Co. Our schools and classrooms are not stocks — you cannot pick and choose who to invest in and who to leave behind. Our classrooms and our future is too important, and Tom Foley has shown he is a risk we cannot afford. We cannot let him turn back the clock on progress”
