Not a Grand Slam, but hardly a swing and a miss.
    1) Does any one besides the select few know all of the specifics of the stadium deal? Or any details other than those that are trickled out by the select upon teeth pulling by the media and opposition?
The fact is, as Foley stated, that despite Malloy’s pronouncements, the fact that the state furnishes 1/2 or more of the city’s operating and education budgets. And once the city cries that it can’t afford a bedtime snack program for underprivileged newborns the state will jump in with a $10 million supplemental grant. It’s all about the kids, not the stadium! Right!
2)Article misleads with Walmart comparison. The state could/should use it’s power as a consumer to get best price, as Walmart does as a CONSUMER to get goods to resell. Walmart does not ‘provide’ health insurance for it’s employees as the self insured state does*- they basically work as an intermediary using the collective number of it’s employees to get a better rate then subsidize a portion of that rate. Anthems’s premiums were upped to a level that the subsidy wasn’t enough to keep it affordable for the workers, so they like most in their industry had previously, cut the benefit for a whopping 2% of their workers. Who could (according to gov’t) get a better/more affordable plan via ACA pool.
*- for any who don’t know, Anthem & other insurers are paid a per person rate to ADMINISTER the state employee plans, they have no direct financial interests/liability in the cost of the care. They pretty much design the plans and get paid to run them, sending the state the bill for actual care costs.
