GOP candidate nominated in 105th race

Republicans have nominated their candidate in the 105th District race for state representative.

Robert Willis, 30,. of Seymour, will be facing off against Theresa Conroy, the Democratic incumbent state representative. The district includes Seymour, Beacon Falls and part of Derby.willis

Republicans had earlier nominated Leonard Greene Jr., who dropped out of the race because of new job responsibilities. Greene had held the state representative seat until he was defeated by Conroy, a Seymour resident, two years ago.

Willis holds a bachelors degree in business management from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven. He is the vice president of marketing at a family-owned national brand out of West Haven. According to his press release, he intends to bring years of formal and real world business experience to lead opportunity back to the state in the form of job creation and a lower tax burden on families and businesses.

Willis was recently recognized in Las Vegas and multiple print publications for the international ’30under30′ award for his work in the K&B industry. He is a member of various organizations including the National Rifle Association and Connecticut Citizens Defense League. He is a supporter of veterans and the US armed forces, his older brother being a veteran of the US Army, and his mother being born on a military base overseas. R

He was previously a member of the Fairfield Republican Town Committee, was a campaign manager in Bridgeport and volunteer for many Republican campaigns across Fairfield County while also moderating a short lived political debate club in downtown New Haven.

“I am determined to get Connecticut get back on track.”  Willis said in a release, “I love this state – it is my home. I know many individuals and families that are struggling due to the bad policies made in Hartford. It is becoming harder every year for people to live their lives to the fullest without the government getting in the way. We had the biggest tax increase in State history under Governor Malloy and it effects everyone from mom-and-pop stores to large businesses. It scares me that Connecticut has been ranked the worst state in the entire country for annual economic growth. I am ready to fight for change so (young and old) families can live their lives without the weight of heavy debts – written by people that do not have their best interests in mind”.
