Chris Murphy didn’t have to look far for his new press secretary, Laura Maloney.
Connecticut’s junior U.S. senator recently hired Laura Maloney away from U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty, a fellow Democrat who holds Murphy’s former House seat in the 5th District.
The 25-year-old Maloney is from Wolcott, which borders Murphy’s hometown of Cheshire, and served as Esty’s communications director for the past 17 months. She also worked on Esty’s re-election campaign last fall.
Maloney takes over the day-to-day role as Murphy’s spokeswoman from Kaylie Hanson, who landed a gig at the Democratic National Committee.
