The New Canaan Nature Center is hosting its “Great American Camp Out” on June 26-27 from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. as part of the National Wildlife Federations’ nationwide celebration of camping as a way of people connecting to nature.
The fun begins with an afternoon and evening of camp tunes, a night hike, s’mores, and the adventure of camping at the New Canaan Nature Center. Participants are welcome to set their tents up in the afternoon between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. From 5:30p.m. – 7:30 p.m., things heat up with a classic camping-style BBQ dinner of hot dogs, grilled corn, chips, watermelon for dessert all washed down with lemonade and water. Adults are welcome to BYOB! After the BBQ there will be field games and music on the Green.
As the sun begins to set, get ready for the nighttime adventure to begin. The campfire ring will be ablaze before participants head off into the darkness for a special early summer night hike experience. Upon returning to the campsite, everyone will enjoy fireside S’mores before dozing off to sleep. In the morning, a light breakfast of bagels, juice, and coffee will be served.
Participants will have to bring their own camp gear and snacks. Access to bathrooms will be available through the night. This event is taking place rain or shine. Pre-registration is by Thursday, June 24 at noon. The cost is $85/family for members and $110 for non-members. To register, click here.
