Westbound I-84 traffic is backed up because of a tractor-trailer vs. car accident on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016.

Two tractor trailer trucks that slammed into each other are causing major delays on the westbound side of Interstate 84 this morning. near the exit 8 at the Bethel/Danbury border.

According to state police, one of the trucks was all but “demolished” as a result of the accident, although no injuries were reported. The roadway was covered with fluid due to the accident and state crews are attempting to sand the area at this time, police said.

The left lane is currently closed as crews continue to clean up the accident, and traffic is backing up more than six miles while speeds are crawling in the teens.

An earlier accident on southbound Route 8, near Exit 11 in Trumbull, has been cleared. It caused a long backup into Ansonia.
