Senate president summons his inner National League fan

Senate President Pro Tempore Don Williams, D-Brooklyn, maybe should have thought of a star closer who also bats, perhaps from his Cincinnati Reds, rather than the local American League team, when he summed up the current budget battle during his remarks at Gov. Malloy’s bill signing. Instead, he coughed up a reminder of a gas-guzzling, Vietnam-era machine.

“I’m pulling for Gov. Malloy to summon his inner Mariano Riviera,” Williams said in reference to Mariano Rivera, the Yankee closer, not the ’70s-era Buick Riviera.
