Fedele Joins the Filing Crowd

Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele claimed today that he is about half way toward gaining the $250,000 in qualifiying contributions in his quest for achieving public financing for his GOP gubernatorial bid.

“Raising funds in relatively small increments is challenging, but it is rewarding because it is exactly the kind of grassroots, ground-up process that the people of Connecticut want in their state elections,” Fedele said in a statement. “Connecticut voters have said over and over again that they do not want special interest money in politics and they do not want candidates with big checkbooks to buy elections.”

He took a swipe at Oz Griebel and Tom Foley, the two businessmen who are not seeking public financing for the GOP gubernatorial nomination.

“Most people in Connecticut do not want to see elections decided by candidates who invest millions and millions of their own private funds in their campaigns,” Fedele said. “They want to see a clean process, they want to see citizen involvement and most of all they want to see elections decided by the issues and qualifications of the candidates. I have met with voters all over the state to discuss the challenges facing Connecticut, to outline my specific plans for fixing them and to share my vision for rebuilding our economy and putting people back to work.” Fedele said. “That’s not a discussion you can have in a 30-second paid television ad. My campaign is being supported by thousands of people across Connecticut, not out of the pockets of a few wealthy individuals.”

Fedele announced he has raised $54,179 during the 1st Quarter of 2010.
