Gov. Rell: The Drought’s Over. Democrats Hopeful of Regaining Gov’s Office

Nope, when Gov. Jodi Rell announced this afternoon that the statewide drought was over, she was talking about reservoirs, not the lack of Democratic governors for the last 20 years. But here’s her news release:

” Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that recent rains have eased many of the water concerns that arose around the state this summer – but said groundwater levels remain low in some areas and some water utilities may still have supply issues.

After a meeting today of the state’s Interagency Drought Advisory Workgroup (www.ct.gov/waterstatus), Governor Rell declared the state was no longer in the “Drought Advisory Stage.”

“While the advisory is over and most public water supplies have re-bounded, there are still a few water utilities experiencing supply issues,” said Governor Rell. “I am encouraging customers to double-check with their water providers to see whether there are any special actions they need to take.

“Meanwhile, until the groundwater supplies are fully replenished, I am directing the Office of Policy and Management to continue to monitor the situation,” the Governor said. “With luck, the usual autumn rains will return water levels to normal statewide.”

In July, a lack of rain compounded by extreme heat led the Governor to encourage conservation measures across the state. On August 18, after a meeting of the drought work group, the Governor declared the state’s entry into the Drought Advisory Stage.”
