This had better add up to 88

Yes, it’s time to pull out the trusty old Connecticut Register & Manual to tote up the political affiliations of the governors dating back to John Haynes in 1639. The first 16 governors, taking us to the post-colonial 1784 were of unknown political persuasion, mostly because of the aforementioned link to England. Then we hit a string of 7 Federalists. On our path to Dannel P. Malloy, the 88th governor and 22nd Democrat, we find 2 Jeffersonian Republicans; one National Republican; 6 Whigs; one member of the American Party, William T. Minor, the only other governor from Stamford, by the way; one American Republican; 31 Republicans; and one member of the A Connecticut Party, Uncle Lowell Weicker.
