Who’s essential? Probably not you, state employee, so stay home

Late Tuesday night Gov. Dannel Malloy hedged his bets, telling most state workers to stay home until noon Wednesday. But by 6 a.m., those non-essential state employees, upwards of 50,000, were told to stay home all day. As part of the civil preparedness emergency Malloy declared, most state offices will be closed today. At a time when most state employees, fearing budget cuts, want to appear essential, the huge overnight snowfall, with more coming, should inform Malloy’s budget-drafting plans.
