Stamford turnout 25 percent, Shays/Murphy win absentee voting

STAMFORD — Voter turnout was 25 percent in Stamford for Tuesday’s primary elections.

Results are trickling in from the city’s 22 voting districts, but absentee ballots have U.S. Senate Republican candidate Chris Shays and U.S. Senate Democratic candidate Chris Murphy in the lead. In the Democratic registrar of voters race, Ron Malloy won more absentee votes than his opponent, Annie Summerville.

  • Republican U.S. Senate Primary: Christopher Shays (146) Linda McMahon (130)
  • Democratic U.S. Senate Primary: Chris Murphy (252) Susan Bysiewicz (100)
  • Democratic Registrar of Voters election: Ron Malloy (206) Annie Summerville (153)

Republicans topped Democrats in terms of turnout percentages Tuesday, but the larger Democratic Party sent a greater number of voters to the polls Tuesday. Here’s the breakdown on voting turnout, including absentee ballots:

  • Republicans: 3,768 of 12,537 (30 percent)
  • Democrats: 5,052 of 22,664 (22 percent)
  • Total: 8,820 of 35,201 (25 percent)
