I wish people would stop being anonymous if you’re going to address me directly. Have some guts and post your name at least (if not email).

First of all, I’m not a Rangers fan. It’s impossible to not root for the team where all our guys go to play. I’m about as hardcore an Islanders fan as any BST season ticket holder. I went to about 10 NYI games including 4 of KO’s 5 home games (and man were some of those miserable to watch). I don’t think I need to justify my team allegiance.

As for the rest of the statement, if you would pay attention you’d see that we’re not talking about the Islanders taking our players to fill in for injuries. Most of us here are educated, long time minor league fans. We know how it works. What Bill105 said and I backed up (and hank agreed) is that the Islanders don’t pay attention to Bridgeport until late August/early September so all the good AHL free agents are gone. An independent ownership wouldn’t (and didn’t) do this. They would be active in the AHL free agent market from the time the Calder Cup is raised. Instead, we’re stuck with the Islanders who don’t even look for any minor leaguers until after they manage to get all the crappy NHL free agents that they’ve signed since Snow took over.

I would not want to be independant, but would like to be affilliated with an organization that is going somewhere and does not have a ex-goalie (2yrs removed) as the GM. Nolan has had 2 seasons, Cappy 2 seasons (yes 1/2 with Marshall), but it is time for a complete change. Before you know it Utah will stink and then what? Somebody mentioned that players do not want to play in NY. Do u blame them? Smyth had no desire to play. Lets see Avs (playoffs all the time, Sakic, etc) or Islanders (Guerin, 15 yr goalie, and Ted Nolan after beging away for so long). It’s plain and simple, Free agents will not play there! Then the sign 3rd and 4th rate guys and who will be in Bridgeport? Nothing!
Oh well, lets see what happens in the off season.

Wotton I think he is sucking it up and playing (injury). Which is great. At this point he should shut it down. His play is hurting the team.

Aaron Johnson, Chris Campoli, and Bruno Gervais all had to clear NHL waivers to play for Bridgeport, that was reported before the season started which is why Berard could not be signed.

Only way they could play for Bridgeport was a conditioning stint which Johnson had.

    Andy,

All due respect but aren’t you a Rangers fan which is why you want independent ownership?

The AHL club always suffers for the NHL team, that’s the process. You cannot put all those injuries on the Isles, that could happen to any club.

Just by looking at the numbers from today’s game, the team doen’t look like it even belongs in the playoff hunt. Sure it’s inexcusable for a goalie to let up 5 goals in a game and 3 in a period. That won’t help any team. But poor morrison had to face 38 shots today. Utter garbage on the defense’s part. For a while, we had to watch Dubie stand on his head to keep the Sound Tigers in games. Now, we get only a slight downgrade in goaltending with the M&M boys, but when you have to face that many shots, that slight downgrade will allow 1 or 2 more goals (Now a 4-3 win becomes a 5-4 loss).

The Islanders have tried to get the Sound Tigers some help on defense. Kohn won’t play for the big club next year, Spiller has played solid all season long (hopefully they’ll resign him), and Aaron Johnson, Chris Campoli, and Bruno Gervais were all apparently scheduled to be sent down at least some point in the season. The Islanders injury woes kept them up.

But we still need an upgrade on defense. Wotton looks downright awful (and if you don’t believe me, look at Giroux’s 1st goal last night). And we still are letting opposing teams have way too many shots.

Like Andy said, it starts from the top and the Islanders just do not seem to get it! It’s a shame the B’Port is stuck with them.

This team lacked a solid number 1 tender all year. This team could have been a calder cup contender with a goalie like dubie.
M and M were not the answer this year for bport.

I don’t think that the Islanders have a commitment to winning (quite frankly at either level, but particularly in Bridgeport). We were better off with independent owners because they worked on putting together a team earlier and then took what they got from their affiliate.

But for this week it’s tough not to look at the goalies. We gave up 5, 5, 6(4), 5 this week. That’s 19 goals against the goalies in 4 games. No way to overcome that.

  10. bill105 says:

Yes it has been a tough couple of years to watch them struggle coming down the end.. We seem to give away points early in the year. We don’t muster a team until about 10 days before starting the season.I maybe wrong but we have had teams in our division get off to run and hide starts the last few years(not surpising that they are together as a unit earlier than our group). It does say something for coach that we were able to compete the ECHL kids for as long as we did.

Can’t control what the other team does, but it sure seems like our guys have given up after last night. Bad goaltending is destroying a team full of young offensive prospects. Seems like from season to season we can’t get both sides of the ice covered (except the first couple years). We either have great goaltending and no one to score or we have a bunch of guys who score and no one to mind the nets. Shame.
