Well today Dipietro had surgery on his knee.So in the past 2 years thats 2 hips and 1 knee.
If that is not a wake up call for the Islanders franchise to bring in another goalie i dont know what is.

I agree I wish Wotton would retire also or become a coach.I am not a fan of his game. Also he makes more bad decisions then anyone i have ever seen.He gets caught out of position so much in the nuetral zone and the defensive zone.

He and fraser are just a bad pairing on D.

    Kohn and spiller was good
    Ford and Fata also good

Please don`t bring back Dwyer or Macdonald,Sertich wasnt bad but please pick up your head or you will be headless or a vegetable.

Good points, all of them. Fraser has way too many turnovers for my liking. And although he seems to do well offensively, he’s still a Dman and needs to get the defensive work done. I think even Mark Wotton himself said that Fraser needs to work on his defensive game. That is quite scary, considering his position is as a defenseman.

I like Wotton and all, and I’m sure he’s a great speaker in the room with all the young guys, but I think he’s past his prime at this point. We definitely need to upgrade our D and I just hope that that can be accomplished this year.

I like the idea of Clemenson and, especially, Leighton coming in for us. I feel that Clemenson isn’t given enough credit for his work. And Leighton…well, we’ve all seen what he can do TO us. Imagine what he can do FOR us. I suppose only time will tell…

Morrison would be a good back up but I would not want him as a starter. The Islander franchise should realize that Dipietro may be injury prone. Not only should they have a good NHL backup but they should have a number 3 that can also step in if something were to happen.
I would not want to c Mole there if Morrison is there. It would have to be 1 or the other IMO.Mole probably won`t be back anyway because he is pissed at the Isles franchise. Also I rented a bunch of Utah games on b2k and he was not good there.Utah did not have a good D either but he is a duplicate of Morrison, mcdonald at best.I am sure the competition between the goalies was decent but if there body of work is the best they have to offer I will pass on both and if u throw mole in there I will pass on all 3.
The Defensive pairing of Fraser and Wotton makes me ill.Fraser is talented offensively but a liability on D.Wotton is just a slow, bad decision making D.Neither of them play the body and are beaten on a regular basis. If you notice when teams start forchecking against these 2 turnovers are very common.
Detroit let Macdonald go,they did not want him to be the back-up.The way detroit judges talent I may be willing to take there word for it.Detroit is a home grown team of great drafting and a little luck.If Mac is going to be the number 2 then they better have a goalie in b-port that is ready to take over.Someone who can steal games and be ready for a call at any given time.
1 last thing i would not be surprised to see the Isles bring in a goalie like clemenson, aubin, leighton to be the number 2 and waive mac or start one of those guys in bport.

Points taken and most agreed. I thought Mo was a good goaltender and I would like to see him back. He seemed to be a bit more consistent than Mac and more in tune with what was going on around him.

As for Capuano, agreed. Most of the D-pairings were horrible and I, personally, don’t like Jamie Fraser and really wish for him to be gone. But that is besides the point. The only thing that I can think of as the reasoning for why Cappie did what he did with juggling the goaltenders is to keep competition between the two. But I think you are in correct in saying that we should ride a hot goaltender until he proves he can’t handle it anymore.

Do I think Mac will be a good back-up for DP? Well, I guess it depends. If he has a good attitude and realizes that he really won’t get as many games as he would probably like, I think he’ll do fine. I have an ok confidence in his performances. Do I think that Mo would be a better back-up? Yes. But who would I rather have in Bpt for us between the two? Mo. I think Mac would fit in on the Island, as long as he keeps a good attitude about it all. I feel that was Dubie’s downfall this year; he didn’t keep a good attiude, expecting way more than what he was ever going to get.

I think Mole should be given more of a chance here in Bpt. Would you be content with a Mo/Mole tandem or just be rid of one, or both, and start somewhere else?

  5. Calamari says:

Some of the 4 goal games may have included a EN goal but u get the jist.
My question for you is do u think Mcdonald will be a good back up for Rick Dipietro?
these posts are not meant to be condescending to anyone just my opinions

  6. Calamari says:

You are 100% correct i was not a fan of Mcdonald or Morrison.Nor did I like the way the goalie situation was handled.
Morrison is a very nice guy but nice guys in net dont win u games. He is a serviceable AHL back up at best.Probably the same as Mole.

Mcdonald drove me absolutely insane. He seemed to often be out of position and let in some of the softest goals I had ever seen for a goalie. When Macdolnald was hot he was tough to beat no matter how out of position he was.

Now lets talk about how Capuano platooned these guys every dang night.A guy would pitch a shutout and be on the bench the next night.IMO With no number 1 goalie it can cause turmoil for a team. What ever happened to riding the hot goalie?
If a goalie got on a hot streak how would he keep it going sitting on the bench the next night.
I felt Mcdonald was the number 1 goalie but he was a average netminder.Believe it or not Morrision had better stats also Morrison had 43 gp and Mcd 38gp.

Now if this team had a Dubie like goalie they would have made the playoffs. In 25 of the ports 36 losses the team allowed 4 or more goals.
Last but not least 2 more thing drove me nuts about capuano. He always shuffled the lines no matter how good they were rolling but he kept the same D pairings all year no matter how mismatched some may have been.

  7. Miriam says:

If I were Mike, I would be unhappy too. Must stink being in an organization that doesn’t seem to give you a good chance, even when you are good.

To Calamari: If you don’t like Mole, and I’m pretty sure you had problems with our goaltenders this year as well (if not, I apologize, as I know some here had some disappointment with our two guys this year.), what is your suggestion as to who we should get over the off-season? Get Dubie back? I’m quite interested to see what your opinion is.

  8. Calamari says:

Be glad if Mole leaves. He is less then average at best.Goalies on the downside of there careers are a dime a dozen.I know Mole is young but he is just not good.

  9. Lou says:

Any truth to the rumor that Mole is unhappy with the organization?

Seems we could be lacking goaltenders if Mole walks too.

  10. Fornabaio says:

Brennan: Have not heard definitively in either direction.

  11. No transfer agreement so no deadline to sign Ridderwall or Johansson today according to Buffalo News.

Current IIHF deal with all European clubs expired
when Czech Republic opted out in January and joined Russia.

  12. Jeff says:

    Mike,

Any word on whether or not Kip Brennan will be resigned and sent to us in Bridgeport?

    Thanks

  13. Fornabaio says:

On Johnson, that’s why they won’t qualify him — if they do, he can elect arbitration. By not qualifying him, they set him free, but he can’t force their hand.

And Dubielewicz would indeed have to clear waivers to go to the AHL — the two-way means he’d just have a lower salary here.

Stefan who? (I keep hearing they plan to sign him. Just no one has gone and said so yet.)

  14. Can someone explain how Aaron Johnson will likely not be tendered a qualifying offer but could gain a spot in an arbitration hearing?

You have to be qualified or you are an UFA, that’s how Isles got Aaron Johnson as an UFA from Columbus.

Mr Fornabaio, I could use a refresher on the rules regarding games played where someone like Dubielewicz at his age could play in Bridgeport all of next season with a two-way contract given he’s up to about forty NHL games without clearing waivers?

Too bad Greg Logan did not get a comment or even a no comment on Ridderwall of Johansson.

    Thanks as always.
