I used the term hated rivals above based on how the NY media seems to portray them. I love seeing Mets/Phillies games. Even took the family to one in Philly last season (and honestly the fans really treated us well, but it helps to have kids with you).
In fact, I respected the Phillies so much that I built my entire postseason fantasy baseball team around them and dominated the league by coming in first or second in all 10 categories of a 5×5 game. The Mets should learn some from the Phillies in how they setup their bullpen for next season.
I dunno, I feel the heat. Not the hate — they’re gamers, gotta respect that — but those games have meant an awful lot the past two seasons. I can see how some would go to “hated.”
I think hated / heated rival is a little over the top.. They haven’t reach Cardinals in the 80’s or Braves in the late 90’s yet. Guess some fans/ media (present company excluded of course)need to make something out of not much.I hate the Phillies more for Juan Samuel than winning these last 2 years! Drop the puck!
I am amazed at how quickly it went from “The Phillies — that team nearby that we play a lot” to “The Phillies — heated rival, if not hated rival.”
What a couple of pennant races can do.
I had no problem with either team winning, as long as Boston was not in the Series. Since it was Tampa and Philadelphia it didn’t matter. Now, saying that, I was rooting for Philadelphia just to let Met fans know how it feels when your hated rival wins the series.
If the Yankee`s can`t win the series, which we all know they have a pretty good formula to be mediocre(Slow old Vets that can`t clutch hit).I am all for any team except Boston or the Mets(Unless Willie was still the manager)to win the series.
I am not happy with the outcome of the World Series. UGH!!! I couldn’t even watch the celebration. At that point, I was wishing for a good hockey game to be on and found none (at least not at that point).
So, basically the idiots in Philly were all juiced up by some moron with bad grammar. Honestly, can you imagine if New York fans did the same thing every time some dope called the FAN at 3am and misused the English language? They’d have to make about 50 different t-shirts a month just to keep up.
As to the Series (and season), when your closer blows zero saves for the whole year it’s a pretty good bet you’re going home with the ring. Of course if your closers blow 29 saves (how can that possibly be) then your fans are left watching their hated Rivals jumping in a big pile on the pitcher’s mound.
