Thanks for the RIT shout-out. Opposing players are greeted with the simple “You Suck”, or if canadian “You Suck, EH”, or if from Army/Air Force “You Suck Sir”. It feels good to finally get some attention, since we fully support and love our hockey up here.
They stayed somewhat clean for most of the game. You can actually read some of their stuff on their website – http://www.ritcornercrew.org/cheers.htm but they had a few that were even more original then those.
What I really enjoyed was their precision responses to the announcer. Right from the starting lineups for both teams (each UNH guy was greeted with “Oh, he s*cks” and their guys got to hear their nicknames chanted). Then when a goal is scored they would mimic the announcer by repeating the player’s name and then the time of the goal. Not sure why, but it does sound cool.
Brian: That “slightly” is breathtakingly slight. If only because Hartford’s win keeps the Pack in it.
Andy: Any of those chants shareable in a family blog’s family comment section?
All I can say about RIT (actually I can say a lot more) is that they have some of the best hockey fans ever. I’m pretty sure that the whole school was there tonight and they were amped up from well below the opening faceoff. UNH had an embarrassingly low number of fans in the building. The RIT orange covered an entire half of the TUC and there was some orange on the opposite side (although the overall attendance was pitiful compared to last season in Bridgeport). The student section (where we sat even though we were rooting for UNH) was packed and well organized. They had a ton of chants, including some I had never heard before, and that’s really saying something. They also had a very organized way of responding to everything that was announced on a goal or a penalty. Let’s face it, they’re a bunch of geeks, but also serious hockey fans. As for the game, shockingly poor play by UNH and especially Foster in goal. Butler never got his game going and the two quick goals in the second pretty much put the game away. Definitely something special.
Heartbreaker. With Norfolk’s loss to Worcester, does this slightly propel the Tiger’s post-season hopes for the final East division spot?
