Like I said, Raul, it was all kind of murky. The long and the short was he wasn’t coming back. Didn’t get too excited about it. As for European departures aside from ones already noted, heard Kinasewich is going to Croatia, but haven’t checked on too many others.
The Islander rookies will play the Bruins rookies at Shelton Ct on 9/14 & 9/15, before training camp officially opens for Boston.
Edit: presumed source
Shelton, Ct is the Sound Tigers practice facility, so consider these home games for rookies, as opposed to usual Syosset mini-camp before group departs.
Very unusual preseason schedule released for New York.
Not that it matters, if Hughes retired, wouldn’t the Islanders have placed him on the suspended list? I don’t think he could have played in the CHL if he did retired.
Any news of last season’s Sound Tigers (or Utah Grizzlies) signing for European clubs?
Hughes, from all appearances and indications, was pretty much cut loose in the middle of the season. The procedural machinations were kind of unclear at the time — one person said he actually filed retirement papers — and, given the indication that he wouldn’t be coming back here, didn’t pursue it that hard. So even if he were due a QO, wouldn’t expect one.
Appears David Toews per Brandon Sun is leaving school, per Van Ryn rule changes in CBA 8.6 New York will retain his signing rights until 6/1/2012.
Bobby Hughes, I believe also requires a qualifying offer from your rfa list in April, if they intend to keep his rights.
