I don’t believe that Cizikas can play for Bridgeport this season. He’s only 19 and in the OHL so that means he can play only for the Islanders (not ready yet) or go back to his junior team.

Overall it was a lot of fun on Saturday night, but it’s impossible to put too much importance on a mid-July scrimmage where some of the guys playing are right out of high school or college and others have played an 80+ game pro season. No way the pro guys (or even the ones who played a long CHL season like Hamonic) were putting in the same kind of effort as the guys who didn’t play as much last season. The invitee kids like Diamond were fun to watch because they were there to try and prove something. The goalies stood out because they both have so much size and played great with some questionable defense in front of them.

I’m looking forward to seeing Hamonic and Ullstrom in Bridgeport. We won’t get to see Nino here, but he was a lot of fun to watch too. Now we just need to go out and find us some scoring veterans.

I didn’t see you there Ray! And yes, there were a bunch of issues. But I will leave it at that.=) I really hope Casey is in Bpt this year. He’s a very humble, quiet kid and I’d love to see more of him playing.=)

For me, teh line of Ulstrom, Martin and Nino was spectacular. Casey Cizikas was by far one of the best players out there as well. I tried to focus on individual players. I thought Donovan and hamonic played ok, and from seeing them in the past, I know that they can and will perform better under pressure. Anders Nilsson and Mikko also were dynamite out there. Can not wait for September.

I heard there were a bunch of issues with the way the isles handled the whole thing (big surprise) but I got there pretty early, and had no issues at all. It was a great night overall!

So the scrimmage last night…the person that stuck out the most for me was Joey Diamond. He scored a goal or two and he was just all over the ice. I really liked his skating and skills, his work ethic on the ice. Mikko was pretty amazing and was mostly a rock. I thought it was really refreshing to see Marcinko out on the ice, since we didn’t see much of him during the season. I thought his skating and puck handling was a bit improved. Danny Markowitz was great too. He had scored a goal and it was kinda pretty. Jason Clark wasn’t bad either.

For me, the skills comp was the best. The scrimmage was kind of boring and didn’t hold my attention as much as I thought it would. I think the players had the most fun with that part so it was really exciting to see. Everything happened kind of quickly though, so I wasn’t really able to catch the names as things were happening. Marcinko won hardest shot though. I do remember that. It was 95MPH, I believe…and I think it was Ness who won fastest skating. The relay at the end was the most exciting and the blue team’s little celebration at the end was just comical. Figgy had won that comp for the blue team and they all gathered around to take a picture and Figgy was the photographer. It was really funny.

And I think that’s all I have to say about it.=)

  5. They’ll probably play all three in short order, but if they’re both here, I’ll guess Lawson to start.

Will it be Mikko or Nate to start?
